Mechanic (School Bus)

Description

National Trails is an established Pupil Transportation company providing transportation services to local Public and Charter Schools. We are seeking experienced Diesel Mechanics for our Wyandotte location. Primary job duties include diagnoses and repair of school buses. Troubleshoot and repair of diesel engines, air brakes, HVAC, electrical, etc. and preventive/ routine maintenance of school buses and other fleet vehicles.

 Essential Job Duties

• Perform preventive maintenance inspections.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic vehicle issues.
• Complete annual state inspection preparation and repairs.
• Maintain accurate repair orders and maintenance records.
• Conduct road calls and emergency repair services.
• Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, Michigan State Police, and customer requirements.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Assist with vehicle inspections and regulatory audits.

Requirements

Technical Knowledge & Skills Desired

• Preventive maintenance procedures.
• Diesel engine diagnostics and repair.
• Brake systems (air and hydraulic).
• Steering and suspension systems.
• Electrical systems.
• HVAC systems.
• Fuel systems and emissions components.
• DOT, FMCSA, and State of Michigan school bus inspection standards.

Minimum Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of vocational or technical training in diesel, automotive, or heavy-duty vehicle repair preferred.
• Valid Michigan Driver's License.
• Michigan State Mechanic Certification and/or ASE Certifications preferred
