Description
The Anesthesia Technician ensures the safe functioning of anesthesia machines through daily checking and calibrating, monitoring the equipment and supply of drugs, instruments and other items needed in the anesthetic management of patients. This position inventories supplies and equipment, as necessary, for the maintenance of a properly supplied surgery area and works closely with supply managers in obtaining needed supplies and equipment. The Anesthesia Technician participates in quality assessment/improvement initiatives and functions as an active participant of the anesthesia team in the planning of the technical support for acceptable medical and physiological monitoring.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
- Assists in lifting, transferring, or positioning of patients; ensures positioning devices are available in the appropriate rooms for cases. Monitors control and well-being patients.
- Coordinates the repair of anesthesia equipment; follows the appropriate guidelines for sending equipment out for repair, troubleshoots problems relating to the availability or working condition of equipment.
- Supply Management Maintains adequate inventory level of anesthesia supplies, increasing or decreasing supply levels as warranted by usage; initiates purchase requisitions, receives and inspects orders of supplies, and stocks the anesthesia workstations.
- Maintains anesthesia monitors and machines and cleans anesthesia carts, machines, and monitors per protocol; sets up and calibrates various physiological monitors to be used during surgery including connecting monitoring lines and preparation of infusion sets.
- Organizes and manages the general functioning of the anesthesia workroom; cleans and decontaminates equipment used in the anesthetic care of patients, including the disassembly of equipment and sterilization in accordance to the Center for Disease Control guidelines to prevent the spread of infectious or contagious diseases.
- Secures special supplies and equipment when needed in emergency or urgent situations; works with systems supply manager and purchasing to obtain special supplies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 6 months Training or experience in medical equipment maintenance or medical supplies Preferred
- Practical knowledge of basic instruments and treatment procedures.
- Must possess an understanding of medical terminology to intercept physician instructions Preferred.
