What we’re looking for:

The Assistant Manager – Capex is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing capital investment and improvement projects at the site. The role ensures projects are completed safely, within budget, on schedule, and in compliance with engineering, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements. The position acts as a key interface between Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Procurement, Engineering Consultants, Contractors, and Vendors to deliver projects that support business growth, asset reliability, process safety, and operational excellence. Specific Accountability and responsibilities include,

Project Planning and Execution

  • Lead assigned CAPEX projects from concept development through commissioning and handover.
  • Develop project scope, schedules, resource plans, and execution strategies.
  • Monitor project progress against established milestones and take corrective actions to address deviations.
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and startup activities to ensure seamless execution.
  • Prepare regular project status reports highlighting progress, risks, costs, and mitigation plans.
  • Ensure project documentation is maintained throughout the project lifecycle

Engineering Design and Technical Support

  • Review engineering drawings, layouts, P&IDs, equipment specifications, datasheets, and vendor documents.
  • Participate in technical evaluation and selection of equipment and engineering solutions.
  • Ensure engineering designs comply with company standards, statutory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of technical challenges encountered during construction and commissioning.
  • Coordinate design reviews and technical discussions with consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

  Contractor and Vendor Management

  • Manage contractors and service providers during all phases of project execution.
  • Monitor vendor manufacturing, inspection, delivery, and installation schedules.
  • Conduct progress reviews with contractors and suppliers to ensure achievement of project objectives.
  • Verify quality and quantity of work completed before certification and payment.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with site safety requirements and project standards.
  • Resolve field execution issues and escalate critical concerns when necessary.

Cost Management and Budget Control

  • Support CAPEX budget preparation and project cost estimation.
  • Track capital expenditure against approved budgets and forecasts.
  • Analyze cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Validate contractor measurement sheets and support invoice approvals.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize project costs without compromising safety, quality, and performance.
  • Provide periodic cost reports to project and site leadership teams.

Safety, Health, Environment and Process Safety

  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership across all project activities.
  • Ensure strict compliance with site EHS policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Participate in HAZOP, Risk Assessment, MOC, PSSR, and Process Safety Management (PSM) activities.
  • Ensure contractor personnel work in accordance with permit-to-work systems and site safety requirements.
  • Conduct project safety observations, site inspections, and risk reviews.
  • Support incident investigations and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Promote a culture of zero harm and continuous improvement in project safety performance.
     

Commissioning and Start-up

  • Coordinate pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, and performance testing activities.
  • Ensure all punch points are closed before handover.
  • Verify availability of operating procedures, maintenance documentation, spare parts, and training requirements.
  • Facilitate smooth handover of completed projects to Operations and Maintenance teams.
  • Monitor equipment performance after startup and support stabilization activities.

Stakeholder Management

  • Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Quality, Procurement, and Finance teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Interface with external engineering consultants, regulators, vendors, and contractors.
  • Communicate project objectives, constraints, risks, and progress to stakeholders.
  • Build collaborative relationships that support efficient decision-making and problem resolution.

Continuous Improvement and Leadership

  • Identify and implement project execution improvements that enhance safety, reliability, quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Support development of project standards, work processes, and engineering best practices.
  • Mentor junior engineers and project team members.
  • Encourage innovation and the adoption of new technologies to improve site performance.
  • Contribute to building a high-performance project organization.
     

Required Knowledge/Skills:

  • Technical Competencies - Project Management, CAPEX Planning & Execution, Engineering Design Review, Process Safety Management (PSM), HAZOP / MOC / PSSR, Commissioning & Startup Management, Cost Estimation & Budget Control, Contractor Management, SAP PM/MM, Microsoft Project and MS Office Suite.
  • Behavioral Competencies - Safety Leadership, Ownership & Accountability, Decision Making, Problem Solving, Communication & Influencing, Collaboration & Teamwork, Continuous Improvement Mindset, Planning & Organizing, Results Orientation, Stakeholder Management.
  • Good written and spoken English.

  • CAPEX projects delivered on time.
  • CAPEX projects delivered within approved budget.
  • Zero major safety incidents during project execution.
  • Successful commissioning and handover of projects.
  • Contractor EHS and performance compliance.
  • Project schedule adherence.
  • Management of change and PSM compliance.

Stakeholder satisfaction and operational readiness,
 

Required Experience:

7–10 years of experience in Project Engineering, CAPEX execution, project planning, or project management within Chemical, Petrochemical, or Manufacturing industries. Experience managing multidisciplinary contractors and engineering service providers.

Required Education:

BE / BTech in Mechanical / Chemical Engineering. Project Management certification preferred.
