Description

Department Overview

OHSU Family Medicine is part of OHSU School of Medicine. OHSU Family Medicine focuses on family health. We provide preventive, primary and specialty care for you, your children, your spouse, your parents and your grandparents. We provide all that family medicine has to offer - from maternity care through geriatrics. Our clinics are home to more than 120,000 patients every year, but despite the large number, our physicians, nurses and other clinic staff know their patients - and their families - by name. OHSU Family Medicine strongly supports the comprehensive scope to provide the highest level of care for our community. The clinical work includes but not limited to all ages of life including newborn to end of life and supporting patients with substance use disorder including medication-assisted treatment and gender affirming care. OHSU embraces diversity and welcomes all patients.

Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is a nationally prominent research university and Oregon’s only public academic health center. The department of Family Medicine has been consistently ranked among the top family medicine departments in the country. The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

Function/Duties of Position

  • The faculty member will be expected to have a strong commitment to developing the practice into a vibrant clinical and academic operation, which is successful from both a professional and business point of view.
  • The faculty member’s schedule will include eight half days with direct patient care, and the supervision of students and other university learners at the OHSU Family Medicine clinics (based on 1.0 FTE). A portion of the faculty member’s FTE is allocated for administration and scholarly activities, including CME (continuing medical education). The work location for this position will be flexible, rotating to different Family Medicine clinics including South Waterfront, Scappoose, Richmond, and Gabriel Park. The work week will fall between Monday and Friday. Some shifts may be evening hours, 5pm to 8 pm. The schedule is set based on clinic need 60-days in advance.
  • The faculty member will provide either same day access, covering acute patient needs, or will provide continuity care and panel coverage depending on the type of support the clinic needs. The faculty member will not be a part of the clinician call pool.
  • The faculty member will be responsible for limited inbasket work according to their coverage assignment and generally will have less inbasket work than a paneled clinician in Family Medicine.
  • The faculty member will have a monthly team meeting and a monthly one on one meeting with the Director of Outpatient Care and Quality to provide consistent support. Communication is essential to helping the float program and our clinics be as successful as possible.
  • The faculty member will be expected to participate in continuing education, professional and faculty development and scholarship. The faculty member’s schedule can be set in accordance with teaching and scholarship engagements with advance notice (at least 60 days).
  • Compensation for the position will include a university base salary and a clinical incentive system based on the success and productivity of the practice, as well as personal initiative.
