Salary$174,907.00 - $279,843.00Our current Director of Medical Surgical Nursing has been selected as Overlake's next Chief Nursing Officer. This has created an opportunity for a proven nursing leader to become our next Nursing Director.
Position Summary:
The Nursing Director of Medical-Surgical Services and Clinical Education provides strategic and operational leadership for medical-surgical nursing units and oversees nursing education, professional development, and competency programs. This role ensures high-quality, patient-centered care while promoting evidence-based practice, continuous learning, and workforce development across the organization. The Director is also responsible for maintaining readiness and compliance with Joint Commission and Department of Health (DOH) regulations through the integration of clinical practice, education, and performance improvement. By aligning clinical operations with education, this role drives improved patient outcomes, staff engagement, and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership for both medical-surgical operations and nursing education programs.
- Align clinical practice, education, and professional development with organizational goals.
- Promote a culture of lifelong learning, clinical excellence, and accountability.
- Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulatory standards.
- Maintain readiness for accreditation and regulatory surveys.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives integrating education and practice change.
- Analyze incident reports and implement corrective actions and learning opportunities.
- Develop and manage budgets for both clinical operations and education programs.
- Monitor labor productivity, education program costs, and resource utilization.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or staff development.
- Partner with physicians, case management, therapy services, and ancillary departments.
- Collaborate with academic institutions and external partners (if applicable).
- Serve on committees related to quality, education, and clinical practice.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Master’s degree in Nursing, Education or Healthcare Administration strongly preferred.
Professional Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current Washington State Registered Nurse license.
Experience:
- Minimum five years of progressive nursing leadership experience.
- A minimum of three years clinical nursing experience to include medical-surgical or acute care nursing.
- Experience in nursing education, staff development, or clinical training strongly preferred.
