## What you’ll do:

Eaton's Electrical Critical Power Systems (CPS) is seeking a Senior Firmware & FPGA Engineer to join our team in Vantaa. As a Senior Firmware & FPGA Engineer, you will play a key role in the development of Eaton's next-generation Medium Voltage Solid State Transformer (MVSST) technology. You will play a key role in the design, development, and validation of embedded firmware and FPGA-based control solutions for advanced power conversion systems. Working with global multidisciplinary teams, you will help deliver innovative, high-performance, and grid-interactive power electronics solutions that support the future of energy infrastructure.

Your responsibilities:

• Design and implement embedded firmware and FPGA solutions for MVSST systems, including real-time control algorithms, protection functions, and state machines.
• Develop and optimize high-speed digital control functions for power converters operating in medium-voltage applications.
• Collaborate with global engineering teams to develop, test, and release firmware and FPGA functionality across Eaton's advanced power electronics portfolio.
• Analyze power system architectures and requirements to design scalable and robust technical solutions that meet performance, efficiency, reliability, and safety objectives.
• Develop firmware in C++ and implement FPGA functionality using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog, ensuring compliance with coding and design standards.
• Design and implement communication, synchronization, protection, and measurement functions across embedded processors and FPGA platforms.
• Troubleshoot and enhance product features; create and maintain functional specifications, design documentation, and verification reports.
• Conduct hands-on testing and debugging in high-voltage and high-power laboratory environments, ensuring strict adherence to safety requirements.
• Support the creation and execution of verification and validation plans, including Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), simulation, and automated test frameworks.
• Apply modern development practices including version control (Git), issue tracking (Jira), continuous integration, and automated testing.
• Contribute to power electronics system modeling, control validation, and performance optimization using simulation tools.
• Mentor junior engineers and actively participate in technical reviews and cross-functional design activities.

## Qualifications:

• University Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering
• Solid experience with embedded systems

## Skills:

• Experience developing firmware and/or FPGA solutions for power electronics, industrial controls, motor drives, renewable energy systems, grid-connected converters, or similar applications.
• Strong expertise in embedded firmware development, real-time control systems, and state-machine design.
• Strong FPGA development experience using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
• Experience integrating firmware and FPGA solutions in complex control architectures.
• Proficiency in C++ and real-time embedded systems.
• Deep understanding of power electronics, converter topologies, and closed-loop control systems.
• Knowledge of medium-voltage power systems, grid-connected converters, or energy infrastructure applications.
• Experience with digital signal processing, timing analysis, synchronization, and deterministic control execution.
• Familiarity with FPGA development tools and workflows (e.g., AMD/Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, ModelSim, Questa).
• Experience debugging complex hardware-software interactions and high-speed digital interfaces.
• Familiarity with modern software development tools and processes, including Git, Jira, debuggers, profilers, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Fluency in English.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive team player.
