Preschool Teacher - Oceanside - Part Time

Overview

The YMCA Preschool Program is designed to support the growth and success of children cognitively, physically, emotionally and socially. Using developmentally appropriate materials, curriculum and activities in a play based environment, your child will be supported in learning social skills, Kindergarten readiness skills and engage in physical activities.

 

The Preschool Teacher will assist in the supervision of children ages 2 to 5 years of age; to plan and implement activities for participants for the Preschool at the Joe and Mary Mottino Family YMCA branch location.

Schedule:

• Location: Joe and Mary Mottino Family YMCA
• Preschool runs Monday-Friday, year-round 
• Work schedule is Monday-Thursday - 4 hours/day + fill in when teachers are out
• Part-Time (no more than 29 hrs/week)
• Specific age enrolled : 2 - 5 years old 

Responsibilities

• General housekeeping of program space and food preparation
• Plan and coordinate activities that fit children's developmental needs and interests
• Record and monitor the daily activities of children in your care
• Assist in the planning and preparation of the creative learning environment, establishment of interest centers, and preparation of needed material and supplies
• Communicate with parents effectively and create a positive relationship
• Interact with children being consistent, fair and treating them with dignity and respect according to the YMCA Code of Conduct
• Comply with Community Care Licensing regulations at all times
• Maintain the cleanliness and health standards of the environment at all times
• Ensure the supervision and safety of children at all times
• Plan and implement daily schedule and curriculum
• Plan, supervise and implement the program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA
• Follow emergency procedures appropriately to ensure the safety of the participants and staff
• Must be highly dependable
• Must have sincere interest in working with children 2-5 years of age
• Must have a warm and friendly personality and the sensitivity to meet the needs of a diverse population
• Must have willingness to fulfill the job responsibilities in accordance to the program and branch goals
• Physical ability to lift children as needed, change and clean a soiled child, interact and direct play
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in an emergency situation
• Physical ability to lead sports, games and curriculum activities, monitor behavior and general housekeeping responsibilities
• Ability to relate to children and adults in a professional manner. Ability to provide leadership and stability to the program
• Other duties as assigned needs to be included to all roles

Qualifications

• 12 CORE units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) required, AA or BA in Early Childhood Education are highly desirable
  • ECE Core courses include: Child Growth & Development, Child, Family and Community and Program/Curriculum
• Minimum of 6 months experience working with youth in a preschool setting
• Criminal record clearance by being fingerprinted prior to reporting to work and signing a statement regarding criminal convictions
• A physical exam and negative TB test results within 7 days of hire
• Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire, unless specified otherwise on contract, and must be from one of the following:
  • American Red Cross
  • American Heart Association
  • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $21.25 - USD $23.63 /Hr.
