DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Assistant Manager of Emerging Technologies, the Endpoint Systems Engineer II is responsible for the advanced design, implementation, and optimization of the organization’s endpoint ecosystem. This role provides senior-level technical expertise in endpoint management, automation, and systems integration, ensuring a secure, scalable, and highly efficient computing environment.
The Endpoint Systems Engineer II performs complex engineering tasks, including the development of automated workflows, advanced scripting, and data-driven decision-making through Structured Query Language (SQL) analysis. This role also supports integration efforts across enterprise systems using Representational State Transfer Application Programming Interfaces (REST APIs) and provides strategic input into endpoint architecture, standards, and long-term technology planning.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. An equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, and relevant experience may be considered.
Experience:
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience administering enterprise endpoint management solutions, including device deployment, configuration, software distribution, patch management, and/or lifecycle management in a complex technology environment.

Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field.
Experience creating queries in SQL or other database management systems.
Certification/Licensure:
Priority will be given to applicants who:
Experience with Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Active Directory, Google Admin Console, Windows Autopilot, Apple Business Manager, and ITSM platforms. Technical certifications related to endpoint management or Microsoft technologies are preferred.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs advanced planning, evaluation, and implementation of complex endpoint solutions, identifying systemic issues and developing long-term remediation strategies.
Designs, develops, and maintains enterprise-level endpoint configurations, deployment strategies, and lifecycle management processes.
Leads efforts in modern endpoint management using Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, and co-management environments with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM), formerly System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
Develops and maintains advanced automation solutions using PowerShell and other scripting languages to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual processes.
Acts in a development capacity for the Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) platform, creating automated workflows, custom forms, and system integrations.
Utilizes SQL to query and analyze system data, generate compliance reports, and support data-driven decision-making.
Designs and implements integrations between endpoint systems and enterprise platforms using Representational State Transfer Application Programming Interfaces (REST APIs).
Evaluates and enforces endpoint standards across the organization to ensure consistency, security, and compliance.
Performs advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex endpoint and systems issues
Collaborates with cross-functional teams to support enterprise initiatives and improve service delivery.
Research emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend improvements to the endpoint environment.
Maintains a working knowledge of current technologies, trends, and best practices in endpoint management.
Interacts with vendors and contractors to resolve complex issues and influence product direction where applicable.
Maintains documentation for engineering processes, system configurations, and integration workflows
Provides technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to team members as needed.
Utilizes the ITSM system to manage and prioritize work in alignment with service level agreements (SLAs).
Provides backup support to team members as required.

Root Cause Analysis & Complex Troubleshooting: Advanced diagnostic and analytical skills to investigate systemic vulnerabilities, isolate root causes of complex OS/endpoint failures, and formulate long-term remediation strategies.

The duty day for this position is 8 hours including a one hour duty-free lunch.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be included in further evaluation. EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION
Compensation
This is a 12-month per year position in the Howard County Education Association, Educational Support Professionals (HCEA-ESP) employee unit. The current salary range for this position is Grade 26 on the Technical Central Office and School Based salary scale. Step placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Howard County Public School System and the HCEA-ESP Master Agreement which considers relevant prior experience. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, this position is not exempt from overtime.
Retirement
Membership in the Maryland State Retirement Agency (MSRA) pension plan is a mandatory condition of employment for all employees who meet the eligibility and membership criteria defined in the State Personnel and Pensions Article and the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR). A qualifying employee cannot reject membership, nor can an ineligible employee elect membership. The annual contribution to the pension plan will be 7% of an employee’s annual salary.
