Configuration & Defect Manager

About the Role

Configuration & Defect Manager contributes to Hitachi’s responsibility to design, manage interfaces, and prepare the documentation needed for installation, test and placing in service approvals. Its specific contribution is to maintain baselines, defect log, version control, release traceability and non-regression coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define configuration and defect management processes, item structures, baselines, naming rules, severity/prioritisation model and reporting cadence.

  • Maintain records for hardware, software, firmware, drawings, settings, network devices, test scripts, documents and installed assets.

  • Run defect triage, ownership assignment, root-cause tracking, fix verification, retest evidence and closure Governance.

  • Coordinate releases and configuration changes with Engineering, IVVQ/T&C, suppliers, Installation and Document Control.

  • Report open defects, baseline status, known limitations and acceptance-impacting configuration issues.

  • Apply the Hitachi Code of Conduct in role-specific decisions, including ethical escalation, anti-bribery discipline, confidentiality, data protection, fair supplier/customer conduct and transparent records.

  • Maintain baselines, defect log, version control, release traceability and non-regression coordination.

  • Owns configuration status accounting and defect workflow discipline.

  • Can block uncontrolled releases or baseline deviations and escalate systemic defect issues.

Key Interfaces

  • Engineering Manager, Solution Engineering Manager, Requirements Manager, IVVQ Manager and T&C Manager.

  • Work Package Leaders, suppliers, Installation Supervisors, Test Engineer and Document Controller.

  • Customer configuration/defect stakeholders where joint defect Governance applies.

  • Change/release reviews.

  • Test-readiness reviews.

Authority & Accountability

  • Accountable for configuration baseline visibility and defect workflow integrity.

  • Authorised to reject uncontrolled changes, require defect evidence and escalate aged/high-severity defects.

  • Recommends release readiness but formal acceptance follows Project Governance.

Mandate

Protect the Project from uncontrolled change and ensure defects are resolved with traceable evidence before acceptance.

Skills & Experience

  • Configuration and defect management experience in systems integration, rail, software, IT/OT or safety-related Projects.

  • Strong knowledge of version control, release management, asset configuration and defect analytics.

  • Ability to coordinate technical teams around evidence-based closure.

  • Resilience and resistance to stress during defect peaks, release pressure and commissioning windows.

  • Discipline, accuracy and strong escalation judgement.

More than 5–7 years in configuration management, defect tools and release control.
