Are you the type of person who can keep their cool in a close game, knows the difference between a travel and a turnover, and doesn’t miss a beat (or a basket)? We’re looking for someone with quick reflexes, sharp focus, and a love for the game to join our team as a Youth Basketball Scorekeeper! If you can count points faster than a fast break and enjoy being courtside for the action, this gig’s for you.
Performs semiskilled work assisting in the implementation of assigned programs. Under the direction of a Recreation Supervisor and/or Recreation Leader II, this position serves as program support staff in the capacity of Scorekeeper at various locations for programs offered by the Parks and Recreation Department. This is a temporary position with no benefits and work hours will vary according to the schedule for assigned programs and events.
- Assists in the supervision of participants of assigned programs;
- Keeps up with fouls, timeouts, and points for each team during assigned games;
- Keeps up with players and player numbers for record-keeping during assigned games;
- Maintains records such as attendance sheets and scoresheets;
- Assists in set-up, breakdown, and cleaning of the assigned work areas for scheduled programs or events;
- Provides positive customer service to participants, volunteers, and members of the public;
- Assists in promoting Chatham County Parks and Recreation programs and events;
- Enforces Chatham County Parks and Recreation rules and policies;
- Provides feedback regarding program processes;
- Performs scorekeeping functions at various schools throughout Chatham County;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- General knowledge of the assigned Chatham County Parks and Recreation programs;
- General knowledge of Chatham County Parks and Recreation program rules, policies, and procedures;
- Knowledge of general safety practices and procedures;
- Ability to provide and promote good customer service including responding to common inquiries and dealing with the public in a sound and professional manner;
- Ability to understand oral and written directions including the ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, room diagrams, and procedure manuals;
- Ability to work at various schools throughout Chatham County;
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county officials, department heads, peers, associates, participants, and the general public.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; safely and responsibly use park and/or recreation equipment; work regularly requires prolonged standing, walking, use of hands and fingers, handling or feeling, frequently requires speaking or hearing, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, smelling, pushing, pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; work requires vocal communication to express or exchange ideas orally; work requires hearing to perceive information at normal spoken levels; work requires visually inspecting small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration, wearing a self contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
**Must be fingerprinted and successfully pass a Criminal History Record Check with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations (NCSBI)**
Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
Must be at least 16 years of age.
