The Department of Career and Academic Planning is excited to announce two openings for a dynamic and student-centered Pathway Advisor - Academic Advising Specialist! This role is perfect for someone passionate about providing asset-based academic advising and retention services within our Division of Academic and Career Pathway Guidance.

As a Pathway Advisor, you will play a key role in helping students develop their academic goals and create both long- and short-term academic plans. Additionally, you'll provide valuable information on both credit and non-credit programs at PCC.

We're looking for someone who excels at building and maintaining positive relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators within their assigned pathway. You will engage with students consistently through ongoing outreach, supporting PCC's commitment to equitable access for all. Your approach will be holistic, addressing students' academic, work, health, and financial needs, while ensuring they are aware of essential resources like food, housing, and transportation support.

The successful candidate will be versatile in supporting our students through various modalities, including virtual, in-person, phone, and email. Flexibility is key, as the role may require evening and weekend hours to meet student needs.

What You'll Do and Who We Are Looking For

• Demonstrate an understanding and practical application of student development, career development and student learning theories.
• Exhibit an understanding of the purpose of higher education, particularly within the context of a community college, to better serve our diverse student population.
• Possess a strong awareness of equity issues, as well as opportunity and achievement gaps at community colleges, and actively work to address these challenges.
• Demonstrate experience providing support and resources to students that enables them to meet and exceed their educational and career goals.
• Understand and engage with cultural differences, demonstrating relational skills that allow for effective advising across diverse student backgrounds.
• Leverage current technologies to conduct proactive outreach, manage caseloads efficiently, and foster clear, consistent communication with students.
• Experience working collaboratively with educational staff and community resources to coordinate student support and engagement utilizing a student-centered approach.
 

Minimum Qualifications
To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• Two years of professional experience in an educational setting providing academic advising, career counseling, student retention/coaching, or related student services.

How We Determine Initial Salary Placement

The initial salary placement typically is between the minimum $65,928.00  to the range midpoint $68,236.00. Placement will generally not exceed the mid-point, based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), you may view Portland Community College’s (PCC) most recent Annual Security Report (ASR) on the Department of Public Safety website. The ASR contains current security and safety-related policy disclosure statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information and resources, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains crime statistics for Clery Act crimes which occurred on PCC properties for the last three calendar years. Paper copies of the ASR are available upon request at all Department of Public Safety offices.
