From managing our balance sheet to shaping long-term strategy, Finance plays a vital role in helping the bank perform today while planning for tomorrow.

Your graduate journey

As a graduate trainee in Finance, we’ll equip you with the knowledge, skills, and experiences you’ll need to make a significant impact through your work. You'll build transferable skills in analysis, decision-making, stakeholder management and commercial thinking that can support a wide range of future career opportunities, both within Finance and across the wider bank.

Over the course of this three-year programme, you’ll have 4 x 9 month placements, three of which will be in Edinburgh or London with one being in Manchester, and you can expect to:

• Learn from experienced finance professionals and build a deep understanding of banking and financial services
• Quickly deepen your analytical skills and see how we use data to make decisions to improve what matters most to our customers
• Develop practical experience across key areas of Finance, from performance reporting to strategy and decision support
• Build strong stakeholder management skills while working with colleagues across the bank
• Develop your ability to negotiate and challenge with purpose to make clear decisions and deliver good customer outcomes
• Tailor your experience by studying towards a professional accountancy qualification with ICAS

Many of our graduates go on to build successful careers across Finance, including roles in Tax, Treasury, Investor Relations, Finance Partnering and Business Intelligence. The breadth of experience you'll gain on the programme will help you shape a career that's right for you.

Entry requirements

We're looking for people who are curious, motivated and eager to learn. To be eligible for our Finance graduate programme, you’ll need:

• To have, or be on course to achieving a 2:1 in your degree
• Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
• The ability to communicate clearly and work with others
• Attention to detail
• Initiative and willingness to take ownership
• To demonstrate an interest in understanding how businesses make decisions
