The role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Business Risk Officer (CBRO) leads G-Research's second line of defence and is responsible for shaping and maturing the firm's enterprise risk capability.

Working closely with Engineering, Security and business leadership, the CBRO will ensure risk management is practical, scalable and embedded into how the firm builds and operates technology. The role provides independent oversight while enabling informed, risk-based decisions in a complex technical environment.

With the foundations of our enterprise risk framework established, we are looking for a leader with first-hand experience operating and evolving a modern second line function. This is not a traditional governance role. It requires a strong understanding of modern engineering and technology environments, balancing innovation with effective risk management.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Developing a holistic view of risk across technology, infrastructure, security, operations and corporate functions
  • Partnering closely with Engineering, Security and Technology leadership to integrate risk management into service design and operations
  • Providing independent oversight of security controls, operational resilience, policy compliance and enterprise risk
  • Enabling the first line to make informed decisions aligned with the firm’s risk appetite
  • Using automation, data and AI to improve risk identification, monitoring and reporting
  • Overseeing operational incidents, material risks and remediation to ensure effective prioritisation and resolution
  • Providing clear risk insight and advice to the Executive Management Team and Board
  • Leading and developing a multidisciplinary team across Enterprise Risk, Security Risk Oversight, Operational Resilience and Algorithmic Safety

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a pragmatic, technology-minded risk leader with experience operating modern second line functions. You will combine sound judgement with technical credibility to influence senior leaders in a fast-moving, innovation-led environment.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Significant experience operating and evolving enterprise risk frameworks in complex, technology-led organisations
  • Proven leadership experience across security, technology or enterprise risk
  • Strong understanding of modern engineering practices, with the credibility to engage technical teams
  • Experience influencing complex decisions at Executive and Board level
  • Ability to balance independent oversight with a pragmatic, business-enabling approach
  • Experience leading managers and building high-performing teams
  • Experience using automation, data or AI to improve risk management and reporting
  • Ability to translate complex technical and operational issues into clear, actionable recommendations

Why join us?

  • Highly competitive compensation plus annual discretionary bonus
  • Lunch provided (via Just Eat for Business) and dedicated barista bar
  • 30 days’ annual leave
  • 9% company pension contributions
  • Informal dress code and excellent work/life balance
  • Comprehensive healthcare and life assurance
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Monthly company events
