Senior Software EngineerReq ID:

BUILD SOMETHING BIGGER THAN YOURSELF
The Walt Disney Company, together with its subsidiaries and affiliates, is a leading diversified international family entertainment and media enterprise with the following business segments: Disney Entertainment, ESPN, Disney Parks, and Experiences and Products. From humble beginnings as a cartoon studio in the 1920s to its preeminent name in the entertainment industry today, Disney proudly continues its legacy of creating world-class stories and experiences for every member of the family. Disney’s stories, characters and experiences reach consumers and guests from every corner of the globe. With operations in more than 40 countries, our employees and cast members work together to create entertainment experiences that are both universally and locally cherished.
How will you contribute to our magical experience?:
At Disney Media Engineering, we build the software that prepares and delivers the streaming experiences our audiences love across Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. This team sits at the heart of media quality: we build and operate the platform that manages the test content and assets that QC operators and device-automation workflows rely on across the media supply chain, from ingest and encoding through packaging, playback, and the player. We also power live-event content scheduling so our teams can validate real-world streaming scenarios before they reach audiences.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll lead the delivery of larger features and epics on our React/Node fullstack, drive down tech debt on a codebase we recently brought in-house, and serve as a go-to technical resource who lifts the whole squad. Your work directly improves the quality and reliability of the content that keeps Disney's streaming magic flawless.
The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for:
- -Lead the development of larger features and epics across React/Node full-stack, from requirements and design through delivery and rollout.
- Diagnose and fix high-complexity bugs across the frontend (React) and backend (Node) layers of the test content management platform.
- Drive down technical debt on an inherited codebase recently transitioned in-house, improving maintainability, test coverage, and developer velocity.
- Integrate with internal services and ensure reliable, well-tested data flows between your code and its upstream/downstream dependencies.
- Build and maintain live-event content scheduling capabilities, ensuring the correctness and reliability of time-sensitive scheduling workflows.
- Own deployments through Spinnaker, contributing to safe, repeatable release practices and CI/CD pipeline health for the squad.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, QA, Design, and Media Engineering partners to plan, scope, and document feature work and align on outcomes.
- Influence and uphold engineering best practices — code-review standards, testing discipline, and documentation.
- Mentor and onboard teammates, serving as a go-to technical resource for feature- and component-level questions.
- Identify problems and opportunities in the platform and recommend pragmatic solutions that improve operational efficiency and product quality.
What we need from you to be part of this story:
- Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
- BS in Computer Science or a relevant technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong, in-depth full-stack experience with React and Node.js, working independently with minimal guidance.
- Proven ability to lead the delivery of medium-to-large features and resolve high-complexity bugs across frontend and backend.
- Solid experience with REST and/or GraphQL web services and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Experience with automated testing (e.g., Jest, React Testing Library) and writing maintainable, well-tested code.
- Comfort working with Git-based workflows, code review, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences (PM, QA, Design); advanced English.
- Track record of mentoring teammates and influencing engineering best practices through informal, impactful leadership.
Nice to have:
- Experience with Spinnaker (or comparable continuous-delivery tooling) for deployments.
- Familiarity with media QC, device automation, or media supply-chain workflows.
- Exposure to live-event or time-sensitive scheduling systems.
- Familiarity with observability/performance monitoring (e.g., Datadog) and containerized deploys (Docker/Kubernetes).
- Experience contributing to tech-debt reduction initiatives while maintaining feature delivery.
- Translation
