Clinician

This position reports to the Program Director and is responsible for the assessment and treatment of CCC participants in accordance with accepted practices and policies.  The Substance Abuse Clinician identifies and facilitates group involvement by providing individual case management for clients in the program.  The Substance Abuse Clinician is responsible for ongoing care with an emphasis on strict follow-up supervision in accordance with approved plans and procedures.

• Identify and develop primary and long-term professional relationships with community advocates and care providers.

• Organize and participate in abuse education and treatment groups, emphasizing those  skills required for participants to develop and maintain a drug and alcohol free lifestyle.

• Provide initial abuse assessment and remedial treatment plans.

• Act as liaison to community organizations and concerned individuals through support and information about programs and agencies providing services. 

• Inform the Program Director regularly about progress and developments in areas of responsibility and influence.

• Establish professional relationships with other long-term treatment facilities and programs as needed.

• Council, assist, support and provide advocacy to all participants within areas of  responsibility and influence.

• Collaborate with other team members ensuring participants’ needs and goals are met.

• Maintain clients’ records according to program procedure and complete all paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.

• Support and promote the Mission Statement of the Sullivan County Department of  Corrections.

The candidate for this position shall possess a Bachelor’s Degree in education, rehabilitation counseling or human services from an accredited college or university.  The incumbent shall have a minimum of two years of supervised counseling experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, LADAC, LMHC, LICSW and/or Masters level clinician preferred.

 

The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of the principles of correctional institution operations, criminal codes, facility policies and procedures, skills training and instruction, have the ability to use computers, manage difficult people under stress and be able to communicate effectively.   The candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and pass a physical examination and drug screening.  The candidate must be capable of social and professional interaction on varying levels, cognitive behaviors to include educational, literacy, cultural, developmental disabilities, health and biomedical, as well as community needs such as housing and dependent family situations.
