Elect Technician

Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Electrical Technician is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Greensboro plant’s electrical, electronic, controls, instrumentation, and electro-mechanical systems. This position performs troubleshooting, repair, installation, calibration, preventive maintenance, and technical support activities to minimize equipment downtime and sustain plant performance. The role partners closely with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Process, and Administrative teams to resolve equipment and system issues, support project and outage work, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts that advance safety, quality, reliability, productivity, and cost objectives. The Electrical Technician is expected to work with minimal supervision, apply strong technical judgment, maintain accurate maintenance documentation, and promote safe work practices while supporting internal customers across the plant. 

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Systems Maintenance & Reliability

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical, electronic, instrumentation, controls, and electro-mechanical systems to maximize equipment reliability and plant availability. 
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate equipment, motors, drives, electrical distribution systems, and process control systems.
• Conduct equipment inspections and identify opportunities to reduce downtime and improve system performance.

Technical Troubleshooting & Problem Solving

• Provide technical expertise and rapid response to equipment failures and process interruptions affecting production operations. 
• Analyze equipment performance data, identify root causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Process teams to resolve complex technical issues and optimize equipment effectiveness. 

Project Execution & Continuous Improvement

• Support capital projects, reliability initiatives, equipment upgrades, and outage activities from planning through execution. 
• Recommend and implement continuous improvement opportunities that enhance safety, quality, productivity, reliability, and cost performance. 
• Assist in developing technical solutions that improve process capability and equipment performance.

Maintenance Planning & Documentation

• Utilize SAP and other maintenance systems to create, update, and close work orders, document maintenance activities, and support inventory and procurement processes. 
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment history, and technical documentation. 
• Support the development and continuous improvement of maintenance procedures, work instructions, and technical standards. 

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

• Promote and comply with all environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Identify and mitigate electrical and equipment-related risks through proactive maintenance and safe work practices.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while supporting a strong safety culture across the facility.

Collaboration & Customer Support

• Partner with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and Process teams to support production objectives and operational priorities. 
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced technicians and contractors as needed.
• Deliver responsive internal customer support while maintaining strong working relationships throughout the organization.

Qualifications & Skills

Education

Required

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Journeyman Electrician License or equivalent electrical trade certification. 

Preferred

• Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Electronics, Industrial Maintenance, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.

Experience

 

Required

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or maintenance environment. 
• Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and control systems. 
• Working knowledge of PLCs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor controls, and industrial automation systems. 
• Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems within qualified scope. 

Preferred

• Experience in a heavy manufacturing or continuous-process environment. 
• Experience supporting reliability improvement initiatives, capital projects, and preventive maintenance programs. 

Technical Knowledge

• Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, motors, drives, instrumentation, and industrial control systems.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply electrical schematics, ladder logic diagrams, P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, and technical manuals.
• Proficiency in diagnosing equipment failures and implementing corrective actions using structured troubleshooting methodologies. 
• Working knowledge of maintenance management systems, preferably SAP.

• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required to support plant operations.
• Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.

Preferred Certifications

• NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training.
• PLC programming and troubleshooting certification.
• Industrial Automation or Instrumentation certification.
• OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification.

 

 

Location Profile

Novelis’ Greensboro facility is located in Greensboro Georgia. With 140 employees it is the first stand-alone used beverage can recycling facility in the company now responsible for pioneering a majority of Novelis’ recycling technologies. Residents enjoy nearby Lake Oconee which includes several golf communities. In addition Athens Georgia – home to the University of Georgia and hundreds of cultural and sporting events each year – is a short drive away.
