Positioned at the intersection of advanced technology, applied research, workforce development, and industry partnership, the school delivers a diverse portfolio of programs spanning Aircraft Maintenance, Commercial Flight, Computer Science, Network and Systems Administration, Cybersecurity, Autonomous Systems, Data Analytics, and related disciplines. The successful candidate will champion interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation while fostering excellence in teaching, learning, student success, and industry engagement.

Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean provides broad academic leadership to the diverse programs within the Norton Wolf School of Aerospace, Information, and Defence Technologies and ensures the objectives of the School’s programs are attained through effective supervision of teaching and learning processes. The Associate Dean facilitates the ongoing review of existing programs and the development of new programs to reflect changing market conditions, technological advances, workforce requirements, and emerging industry needs in aerospace, aviation, information technology, cybersecurity, defence, and related sectors, in alignment with the College's strategic plan.
The Associate Dean conducts investigations of complaints from students and staff and initiates appropriate problem-solving processes. The Associate Dean establishes positive relationships with industry, government, professional associations, and community stakeholders and participates in the College's student recruitment, retention, partnership development, and graduate employment initiatives.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Provides Academic Leadership
Provides recommendations to the Dean on the school’s strategic plan, goals and objectives
Works collaboratively in the development and implementation of the school’s/faculty’s strategic plan as part of the College’s academic planning process
Contributes to the academic well-being of the College through competent planning and administration of the School’s programs and services
Initiates, facilitates and actively participates in the development and implementation of new academic programs, leading the advancement of the new academic programs’ approval through the College’s stage-gate process, and the ongoing review of existing programs in response to changing economic and market pressures, changing technology and employment opportunities according to business/industry/field standards and College/Ministry guidelines
Ensures that the objectives of the school/faculty are attained through effective supervision of the teaching and learning processes including the provision of appropriate learning resources and maintenance of close contacts with the external community, advisory committee and other educational institutions
Participates in the development of new program initiatives to assist the College with the new partnerships and strategic alliances, and the development and implementation of alternative learning and delivery strategies.
Ensures that the current and future educational needs of students are met by providing an ongoing review of programs; determines need for modification of existing courses/programs and the introduction of new programs
Chairs several committees and represents the school/faculty on College-wide and provincial committees. Involves holding executive positions from time-to-time and facilitating college-wide initiatives
Promotes community ventures by forming linkages/networks and develops/establishes partnership arrangements through advisory committees, agreements and projects
Advises and counsels students to help them resolve problems and coordinates crisis management strategies for vulnerable students
Supports the Ontario Human Rights Code in that the needs of students with disabilities must be accommodated to ensure equal access to educational services
Manages and Develops Human Resources
Maintains a high level of performance through effective recruiting, selecting, developing, motivating, evaluating and training of faculty and support staff within the assigned portfolio
Promotes and monitors ongoing professional development of faculty
Directs and administers the activities of faculty in their teaching assignments and complementary functions that create an effective working environment for all staff and the teaching/learning process, and ensures that faculty and staff assignments are consistent with College policies and procedures
Promotes and monitors the ongoing professional development for faculty and staff
Conducts first and second level investigations and initiates the problem solving process for disputes involving faculty, staff and students. Utilizes Collective Agreements, Student Rights and Responsibilities documents, respective policies, etc. to assist in the dispute resolution process. Participates as an administrative representative on the formal student appeal procedure
Establishes and fosters a working environment that encourages respect, creativity, communication and interaction among and between faculty and support staff to meet new and existing school initiatives
Recommends disciplinary and termination action as required
Contributes to Program Evaluation, Partnerships and Marketing Promotions
Conducts curriculum review processes for assigned portfolio and implements initiatives related to curriculum
Establishes learning outcomes for programs and strategic alliances, in accordance with provisions set out in College and Ministry policies and also in situations where established practices do not exist
Seeks and promotes new initiatives that reflect and meet the needs of changing business and industry sectors, employers, college students and the goals/objectives of the College
Establishes and maintains positive, ongoing relationships within the various fields including advisory committee members, professional associations, business/industry/government representatives
Coordinates partnership arrangements with other educational institutions and ensures these are promoted/marketed within the College and to the broader external community
Ensures Effectiveness of Operations
Develops, monitors and directs budget activity for the school/faculty and keeps the Dean informed of budget status
Projects student enrolment for the purpose of the College revenue distribution. Develops budget submissions for appropriate/available external grants and determines related expenditures
Ensures the effective use of human, physical and financial resources, reallocating resources appropriately as necessary
Oversees the planning, generation and accuracy of data for course loading for student timetables, calendar materials, programs of study, etc.
Ensures Occupational Health and Safety, Ontarians with Disabilities Act requirements are implemented and maintained
Assists the Dean as necessary regarding implementation of special projects, and represents the Dean at assigned functions/activities
Performs other duties as assigned
What You'll Bring
Masters degree in a related Discipline
Minimum 9 years’ of related and progressive administrative experience at point of hire
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Teaching experience at the post-secondary level along with extensive knowledge in curriculum design and development, program planning, marketing, public speaking and budget management
Subject matter expertise in aviation or aerospace training, preferred, and/or familiarity with Transport Canada regulatory frameworks and the delivery of accredited aviation programs
Demonstrated ability to cultivate and foster a collegial, collaborative environment and a demonstrated ability to work with the applicable sector
Effective leadership and team building skills
Learner-centered approach to the teaching and learning process
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to establish alliances with the related occupational community
