Job Description

The MAP Structure team operates as a direct extension of the Design Office on the Final Assembly Line (FAL) and Customer Line. We hold delegated responsibilities in Design, Stress, and Chief Engineering assessments for Non-Conformities (NCs) and flight testing on the A320 Family FALs & Flight Test Centre.

Our scope of responsibility spans from the reception of aircraft sections at the FAL through to final Customer Delivery, managing outstanding work on the entire fuselage and wing junctions throughout the manufacturing process.

Based in Airbus Tianjin Delivery Center, you will collaborate globally with MAP colleagues across various National Companies as well as engineering hubs in Hamburg, Mobile, and Toulouse. You will interface daily with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Flight Line/FCM teams. In a dynamic ramp-up environment, you will drive efficiency through overall aircraft and product knowledge, technical leadership, co-development, and digitalization, with a strong focus on project improvement and NC eradication.

Tasks & Accountabilities

The jobholder acts on the complete aircraft structure, covering both metallic and composite structures. The main tasks and responsibilities include:

Core Engineering & Technical Assessments

  • Structural Readiness: Ensure the permanent readiness of the aircraft structure and guarantee the Safety of Ground and Flight Operations. Provide engineering support for ATA 52–57, ATA 71, and ATA 78 based on CoC/CE delegations.

  • Daily MAP Execution: Perform design or stress assessments, deep-dive investigations, technical assessments, and the management of temporary aircraft configurations.

  • Troubleshooting: Conduct comprehensive troubleshooting, including aircraft inspections, tests, and detailed analyses.

  • Complex Problem Solving: Resolve complex technical issues blocking the FAL industrial process, and develop major repairs to support the Working Party.

  • Non-Conformity Resolution: Deliver robust technical solutions in support of the build, test, and delivery of aircraft regarding deviations highlighted by Airbus Quality, Flight Test Crews, or the Customer (NC, ALB, CLB, QLB).

  • Design Query Notes (DQN) : Monitor the progress and ensure successful incorporation into the definition dossier.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Interface

  • Central Point of Contact: Act as a central point of contact, ensuring all engineering-related issues are handled with the right priority to maintain production and certification schedules.

  • Global Liaison: Interface and support stakeholders including the Flight Test Centre, Final Assembly Line, Flight Line, Delivery Centre, Design Office, Chief Engineers, Airworthiness Specialists, and other MAP offices globally (China, Toulouse, Hamburg, and the USA).

  • Unified Engineering Voice: Represent MAP within Multi-Functional Teams (MFTs), serve as a unified engineering voice in front of the FAL, and lead technical discussions with customers.

  • Team Synergy: Foster team spirit across transnational engineering, program, procurement, and production teams to promote an innovative, proactive, and solution-oriented attitude. Share best practices within teams and across functions.

  • Customer Deliverables: Support the preparation of Customer Technical Memos in collaboration with the Delivery Director and participate in customer presentations to justify defined structural repairs.

Continuous Improvement  

  • Continuous Improvement Leadership: Lead and support various efficiency projects (NCs Eradication, ESDM, PPI, MIP, "Follow the Sun" approach) to continuously optimize ways of working and operational performance.

  • Root Cause Analysis: Contribute to improvement projects to eliminate pain points and recurring NCs in the FAL and Customer Lines by conducting technical root-cause analyses and defining containment actions.

  • Milestone Coordination: Coordinate key engineering topics to ensure appropriate lead-time correction considering aircraft milestones.

  • New Technologies: Support the introduction of new technologies.

  • Flight Operations: Participate time to time in Flight Test activities as required.

Working Conditions

  • Travel: This role involves business travel to Europe; candidates must be able to travel accordingly.

  • Flexibility: This role operates under flexible working hours and requires on-call support during weekday evenings or weekends according to team arrangements.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Aircraft Design, Aircraft Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering.

  • EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the aviation/aeronautical structural domain.

  • CERTIFICATION: Not strictly required; a CAAC, EASA, or FAA maintenance license is a distinct plus.

  • LANGUAGE: Fluent English (both written and oral communication).

  • KNOWLEDGE / TECHNICAL SKILLS: Strong fuselage architecture knowledge and/or awareness of structural metallic and composite repair techniques. Good stress knowledge is preferred. Experience using AIRBUS manuals, including the Structural Repair Manual (SRM), Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), and Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC).

Preferred Experience

  • Design Office and Chief Engineering delegations in the corresponding engineering domain, or equivalent experience with the clear capability to achieve the required delegations.

  • Proven working experience within transnational or cross-cultural teams.

  • Deep understanding of MAP Engineering deliverables and Airbus Design Principles.

  • Knowledge of Aircraft Configuration management rules, alongside AIRBUS internal procedures, processes, and tools.

  • Demonstrated success in identifying, isolating, and solving engineering problems effectively.

  • Ability to function efficiently on the basis of self-motivation and self-direction.
