As Executive Director of Buildings + Design Operations, you will oversee the implementation of strategic direction and operational management of Cleveland Clinic’s built environment portfolio across its seven business lines: Facilities, Construction & Engineering, Planning & Design, Real Estate, Environmental Services, Art, and Sustainable Operations. You will ensure seamless, efficient, and integrated operations across these functions while driving performance, innovation, and employee engagement. In partnership with enterprise leadership, you will advance organizational priorities and ensure the delivery of aligned, integrated, high-quality, and financially responsible services across the portfolio.


Serving as a senior leader within Buildings + Design, this position partners closely with executive, clinical, operational, engineering, construction, supply chain, and market leadership to deliver complex healthcare environments that support patient care, research, and education while advancing innovation, sustainability, and design excellence. 

A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Lead Buildings + Design functions for the enterprise, ensuring alignment of vision, strategic direction, technical authority, and management practices.
  • Responsible for hiring manager activities.
  • Support the development and implementation of new programs and initiatives that enhance safety, quality, innovation, and patient / caregiver experience.
  • Partner with B+D Market Operations Executive Directors and Administrative Director to execute strategies that meet organizational needs. Foster cross-functional collaboration with clinical and non-clinical partners and market leadership.
  • Monitor financial performance and contribute to budget planning and cost management.
  • Facilitate operating initiatives by coordinating stakeholders, setting goals, developing implementation plans, and ensuring timely execution.
  • Lead or support service line transitions, new program launches, and operational enhancements.
  • Collaborate with leaders to develop and track performance goals across quality, cost, growth, people, and innovation. Integrate industry best practices into policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and develop external business relationships that support departmental and organizational success.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture or related field and ten years of experience in facilities operations, planning, design, construction, or plant engineering that includes five years of managerial experience of complex facility management organizations
  • Experience with MS Office, Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Project Management Software (P6 Primavera, MS Project, etc.), Bluebeam or similar project review software Capital program management valued $100 million or more
  • Professional registration as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect
  • Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC), Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM), Certification as a Certified Safety Healthcare Professional (CHSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) upon hire or within one year of hire
  • Strong knowledge of complex building systems, (design, service and construction) contracting, and (local and national) market conditions
  • Commitment to innovation, continuous improvement, and service excellence
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets and operational metrics

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Master’s Degree or MBA
  • Two years’ healthcare experience
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel to various locations throughout the health system and to move about construction sites in various degrees of completion.
  • Must have normal or corrected vision and be able to clearly communicate by phone or in person.
  • Must have own transportation due to travel to multiple sites.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally. The position requires a passport and/or the ability to get a passport within a reasonable time frame.
