Job Summary (Essential Functions):

  

The Lead Assistant Golf Professional supports the Head Golf Professional in leading Island Country Club’s daily golf operation. The role provides operational continuity, assists with tournament and association programming, develops staff, and helps deliver a consistent, exceptional member and guest experience.


Education and/or Experience:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Professional Golf Management, hospitality, business, recreation, or a related field preferred; equivalent golf-industry experience considered.
  • Minimum three years of progressively responsible experience in a private-club or high-end golf operation preferred.
  •  Demonstrated experience leading staff, administering tournaments, managing daily play, and communicating with members.
  •  PGA Member in good standing preferred; advanced PGA Associate working toward membership may be considered.

Licenses and Special Requirements:

  •  Strong desire to advance into a Head Golf Professional or Director of Golf leadership role.
  •  Visible, approachable, proactive, and comfortable making sound operational decisions.
  •  Valid driver’s license and ability to operate golf carts and related equipment safely.
  •  Availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak periods and major events.
  •  Professional appearance and ability to represent Island Country Club with discretion, integrity, and sound judgment.

  Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations:

  • Advanced knowledge of private-club golf operations, member-service standards, golf policies, and daily procedures.
  • Strong command of tournament administration, including Golf Genius, scorecards, pairings, flights, results, prizes, billing, and reconciliation.
  • Working knowledge of ForeTees or comparable tee-sheet systems, point-of-sale systems, club websites, and member communication platforms.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Rules of Golf, USGA GHIN Handicap System, pace-of-play procedures, and equitable competition administration.
  • Ability to lead, coach, schedule, train, and hold staff accountable while maintaining a positive developmental environment.
  • Strong organization, communication, problem-solving, accuracy, and follow-through with limited supervision.Job Tasks/Duties:
  • Supports the Head Golf Professional in daily golf operations and assumes increased operational responsibility in the Head Golf Professional’s absence.
  • Assists with tournament and event planning and execution, including registration, pairings, scorecards, scoring, results, awards, communications, billing support, and reconciliation.
  • Supports Men’s Golf Association and Women’s Golf Association daily and weekly games, including sign-ups, formats, pairings, handicaps, scoring, results, payouts, and member communication.
  •  Provides day-to-day leadership, scheduling support, training, performance feedback, and accountability for Assistant Golf Professionals, Seasonal Assistants/PGM Interns, and Golf Shop Associates.
  • Leads pace-of-play monitoring through tee-sheet management, player communication, course presence, and coordination with Outside Operations.
  • Leads the PGM Intern Education and Development Program through operational rotations, learning objectives, project assignments, mentorship, evaluations, and progress toward PGA requirements.
  • Maintains a visible presence in the golf shop, on the first tee, at the practice facilities, and on the golf course to support member and guest service and resolve concerns.
  • Mentors and develops golf operations staff through clear expectations, coaching, delegation, cross-training, and professional-development opportunities.
  • Supports Golf Genius, ForeTees, GHIN, member communications, operational procedures, and related administrative responsibilities.
  • Performs other appropriate duties and leadership assignments as directed by the Director of Golf or Head Golf Professional.

• Models Island Country Club’s service standards and supports a positive, professional, team-oriented culture.

  

Physical Demands and Work Environment:


Must be able to work effectively in indoor and outdoor golf environments, including hot, cold, humid, and rainy conditions; stand and walk for extended periods; and perform frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, pulling, and repetitive motion.
