[What the role is]

The Radiation Protection and Nuclear Science Group in NEA is Singapore’s national authority for radiation protection, safeguarding the public, radiation workers and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation. Our Regulation Division administers and enforces the Radiation Protection Act and Regulations through licensing, inspection, and enforcement.

[What you will be working on]

As a Senior Scientific Officer of the Ionising Radiation Control Department, you will enforce radiation safety regulations and advance Singapore’s radiation protection framework through:

  • Administering the Radiation Protection Act and its Regulations, and ensuring regulatory compliance across all radiation users

  • Establishing regulatory requirements and guidelines for licensees’ on-site Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) plans, and reviewing plans to ensure compliance and adequacy

  • Reviewing and enhancing the regulatory regime through benchmarking and analysis of international best practices

  • Evaluating radiation protection, security, transport and radioactive waste management plans for compliance with regulatory requirements

  • Developing regulatory policies, guidance and technical documents for the safe and secure use of radiation in industrial and medical facilities

  • Conducting site inspections, investigating regulatory issues, and providing technical advice on radiation protection matters

  • Collaborating with industry stakeholders, international organisations, consultants as well as local and foreign government agencies

[What we are looking for]

The job might be for you if you possess:

  • Degree in Physics or radiation-related discipline

  • At least 5 years of relevant working experience in the field of ionising radiation, radiation protection, or EPR

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Good analytical, writing and presentation skills

  • Able to work in a team and independently with minimal supervision

  • Able to work efficiently and meet tight deadlines

  • Able to adapt to changes and have a positive work attitude

  • Highly motivated, meticulous and committed

  • Knowledge in legal and regulatory matters would be an advantage
