Team: Absence Management and People Ops

Scope: Individual Contributor, P2

Years of Experience: 2+

Location: Reno, NV (Onsite)

Compensation: $66,000 to $74,000 USD Annual

Overview:

Reporting to the Director, Absence Management and People Ops in People, Culture, and Justice (PCJ), the Workers’ Compensation and Employee Services Coordinator serves as the primary contact for all Patagonia business lines to support employees following occupational injuries/illnesses and workers’ compensation claims. Acting as a liaison between the employee, third party vendor, and business lines, the Coordinator will ensure a timely review of all work status and injury reports to facilitate a smooth transition back to work, following occupational injury or illness.  The Coordinator will maintain accurate reporting of all claims, return to work decisions with or without transitional work assignments, and will document information to meet compliance requirements.

This role also serves as the first point of contact for PCJ questions for Reno-based employees and is responsible for directing employees to appropriate resources. As a part of the PEE Services team, this role may be expected to support various HR-related functions, including I-9 inquiries and audits, document retention and collection, and responding to employee inquiries.

What You’ll Do:

Worker’s Compensation & Return to Work:

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for workers’ compensation/occupational injury claims
  • Partners with third-party provider to receive and review injury and work status reports
  • Assesses employee’s injury/illness and determines if transitional work assignment can be sought or if employee requires leave of absence
  • Communicates with business lines regarding the injured employee’s restrictions to determine available transitional work assignments to support return to work
  • Coordinates employees return to work including documenting any decisions for transitional work assignments and ensures all necessary documentation is completed in compliance with state laws and company policies
  • Reviews and determines eligibility for FMLA leave if employee is unable to return to work; designates leave accordingly
  • Collaborates with Senior ADA specialist as appropriate if employee returns to work with permanent restrictions
  • Maintains accurate record of occupational injuries/illness and decisions on transitional work assignments
  • Ensures compliance with state workers compensation laws and company policies
  • Builds and fosters partnerships with People and Culture Business Partners to maintain knowledge of respective business areas and partner on overlapping matters
  • Partners with support team members for reporting workers compensation/occupational injury and illness claims
  • Provide support, as needed, to team members to process and review non-occupational injuries
  • Assists employee in understanding benefit information during workers’ compensation claim and refers to Benefit Partner as needed

People Operations

  • Support employees with PCJ-related inquiries by providing guidance, resources, and timely direction to appropriate channels or resources.
  • Ensure continuity of service by providing backup coverage for People Operations Specialists and managing incoming help desk requests.
  • Contribute to other People Operations initiatives and responsibilities as assigned

Experience You Bring:

  • 2+ years of workers’ compensation experience including providing temporary work assignments and return to work
  • 2+ years of FMLA/leave of absence experience including eligibility review and designations
  • Case management experience in retail, warehouse, and customer service preferred
  • Experience managing workers’ compensation claims in various states
  • Demonstrated ability to manage fluctuating caseloads and maintain compliance with company, state, and federal regulations
  • Strong computer skills (Workday, SharePoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook)
  • Vendor case management systems (FROL, AbsenceSoft, or similar)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Excellent communication skills in working with a diverse employee population.  The ability to write clearly and persuasively in addition to defining problems and articulating solutions within a group setting.
  • Demonstrate initiative, is conscientious and provides complete follow-through on all areas of responsibility
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area is preferred but not required (e.g., human resources or equivalent field).

Hiring Range: $66,000 to $74,000 USD Annual

At Patagonia, pay ranges are assigned to a job based on the location-specific market median of similar jobs according to third-party salary benchmark surveys. Individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget. Note the full pay range for this role ranges from: $62,700 - $94,100 USD Annual. The Hiring Range reflects where in the range we intend to hire for this role.
