Location: Mission Regional Medical Center – Mission, TX
We are seeking a Health Information Management Technician III, also referred to as a HIM Tech III, Release of Information Cleark or Medical Records Technician III. The Health Information Management Technician III (HIM Tech III) serve as the hospital’s designated contact for all requests to release patient health information, including legal medical records and fetal monitor strips. This role ensures requests from patients, third parties, providers, and legal entities are processed within mandated timeframes while maintaining compliance with HIPAA, state laws, and hospital policies. The position also handles accurate billing, records all disclosure transactions, and provides backup support to HIM Tech I and II as needed.

- Ensure patient charts are complete and accurate by checking for missing reports, unsigned orders, and incomplete discharge summaries, and work with providers to resolve issues
- Perform chart analysis and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and staff to correct documentation so records support quality care and billing
- Process requests for medical records from patients, attorneys, insurers, and government agencies while safeguarding information under HIPAA and hospital policies
- Handle complex or legal requests such as subpoenas, audits, or court orders, making sure all are addressed within required timeframes and properly documented
- Monitor compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, state laws, and hospital policies by reviewing data and preparing records for audits or inspections
- Use EMR systems like Epic to update and maintain records, resolve data issues, train HIM Tech I and HIM II staff, and support coding and vital records reporting
