Description

About the role

This is a rare opportunity to shape the strategic direction of transaction monitoring, financial crime analytics and intelligence capabilities across BOQ Group. Reporting to the Head of Advisory - Financial Crime Compliance, you'll provide senior leadership and oversight across the Group's Transaction Monitoring framework, Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and analytics capabilities, helping ensure we remain at the forefront of detecting, preventing and responding to financial crime risks.

You'll work at both a strategic and enterprise level, influencing how we identify emerging threats, strengthen financial crime controls and adapt to an evolving regulatory landscape. This role sits at the intersection of data, technology, intelligence and risk, giving you the opportunity to drive innovative and intelligence-led approaches that enhance our ability to protect customers and meet our AML/CTF obligations.

Working closely with senior stakeholders across Financial Crime Operations, Risk, Technology, Data and Compliance, you'll provide oversight, challenge and guidance on transaction monitoring scenarios, analytics methodologies, intelligence activities and significant financial crime matters. You'll also play a key role in shaping future capability uplift opportunities, including the adoption of advanced analytics, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to strengthen financial crime risk management across the Group.

What makes this role particularly exciting is the breadth of influence you'll have driving enterprise-wide governance and strategic decision-making; you'll help shape how BOQ Group responds to increasingly complex financial crime challenges while contributing to a safer banking environment for our customers and communities.

About you

You're a strategic thinker who combines deep financial crime expertise with curiosity, sound judgement and a passion for solving complex problems. You enjoy looking beyond today's challenges to identify emerging risks, opportunities and innovative ways to strengthen controls and improve outcomes.

You'll bring strong experience across one or more areas of transaction monitoring, financial crime analytics or financial intelligence, along with a deep understanding of AML/CTF obligations, risk management practices and regulatory expectations within the Australian financial services sector. You know how to balance compliance requirements with practical business outcomes and can confidently navigate complex regulatory and operational environments.

You are comfortable working with data, analytics and emerging technologies and understand how these capabilities can be leveraged to drive more effective financial crime detection and intelligence outcomes. Just as importantly, you're able to translate complex technical, regulatory and analytical concepts into clear, practical guidance for a range of stakeholders.

Relationship building comes naturally to you. You can establish credibility with senior leaders, influence through collaboration and provide constructive challenge where required. People value your ability to bring others on the journey while maintaining a strong focus on risk management and customer protection.
