Position Summary
The Tool and Die Technician 2 is responsible for the refurbishment, maintenance, repair, validation, and inventory management of tooling and die components. This position requires expertise in precision grinding, polishing, lapping, welding repair techniques, heat-treat processing, inbound tool validation, and preparation of tooling for external service providers.
Responsibilities
· Utilize best practices for precision grinding and lapping die components to achieve specified finishes.
· Operate manual and automatic surface grinders, wheel dressers, and polishing equipment.
· Perform welding repairs on tooling and die components.
· Perform heat-treat processes according to specifications.
· Inspect tooling using micrometers, calipers, microscopes, magnifiers, and other measuring equipment.
· Read and interpret tool and die drawings to determine component condition.
· Validate inbound tooling for dimensional accuracy and readiness for production use.
· Prepare tooling for outbound repair and service activities including documentation and packaging.
· Maintain refurbished tooling kits and establish new kits as required.
· Manage spare tool inventory and issue work orders to maintain minimum stock levels.
· Assist Tool and Die Makers as needed.
· Perform minor machine maintenance including lubrication and greasing.
· Maintain records of repairs, heat treat activity, validation, and inventory transactions with all current software applications.
· Maintain 5S standards and follow all safety requirements.
· All other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
· Grinding and finishing experience preferred
· Knowledge of inventory management preferred
· Inspection tools and equipment experience
· Basic reading, writing, math, organizational and computer skills
· Mechanical aptitude assessment
· Must hold or obtain a STRATTEC forklift operator license
· Acceptable attendance and work record requirements
