The Clinical Research Recruiter (CRR) in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine Research is responsible for coordinating and executing participant recruitment, intake, and pre-screening activities across multiple clinical research studies. This role supports multiple Principal Investigators (PIs) across a variety of disease areas and may also provide recruitment support to other divisions at the request of the PI or Division leadership.The Clinical Research Recruiter works closely with investigators, clinical research coordinators, and study teams to ensure efficient identification, engagement, and enrollment of eligible participants, while maintaining compliance with institutional, regulatory, and ethical standards.

Job Duties
Participant Recruitment & Outreach
- Lead the development and execution of recruitment strategies to meet study enrollment goals and timelines.
- Identify, recruit, and engage potential participants using methods such as EMR tools, registries, community outreach, digital campaigns, and approved advertising.
- Utilize systems (e.g., Epic, HERON, and other databases) to identify eligible participants.
- Design and implement innovative outreach approaches, including community engagement and provider referral pathways.
- Conduct participant outreach via phone, email, patient portals, and other approved communication methods.
- Collaborate with study teams to align recruitment strategies with protocol-specific eligibility criteria.
Intake, Pre-Screening & Participant Navigation
- Serve as the primary point of contact for individuals interested in research participation.
- Conduct structured pre-screening assessments to evaluate eligibility across multiple studies.
- Collect relevant medical history and obtain records in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Match and refer participants to appropriate studies based on eligibility and interest, including cross-divisional opportunities.
- Maintain ongoing communication with participants regarding status and next steps.
Data Management & Recruitment Tracking
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date recruitment records in systems such as REDCap, Excel trackers, or clinical trial management systems.
- Track and analyze recruitment metrics (e.g., screening outcomes, enrollment rates, source effectiveness).
- Document all participant interactions and recruitment activities per institutional and study requirements.
- Prepare and deliver recruitment reports and updates for investigators and study teams.
Study Team Collaboration
- Partner with Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs) and investigators to support study start-up and ongoing recruitment efforts.
- Participate in study meetings to review recruitment goals, progress, and challenges.
- Communicate recruitment updates, insights, and barriers to study teams in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with study teams on scheduling participant screening visits.
Regulatory & Compliance Support
- Ensure all recruitment and pre-screening activities comply with IRB requirements, HIPAA regulations, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
- Prepare and submit recruitment materials for IRB review and approval.
- Support the distribution and use of IRB-approved recruitment materials.
- Maintain confidentiality of participant information and ensure audit-ready documentation of recruitment activities.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Maintain organized recruitment materials, databases, and communication logs.
- Support cross-functional coordination across departments involved in recruitment activities.
- Adapt recruitment approaches based on study needs, disease areas, and protocol complexity.
- Provide recruitment and pre-screening support for studies across divisions as needed.

Required Qualifications
Work Experience: Five (5) years of experience in clinical research or related field, including recruitment of research participants. Education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
Certifications/Licenses: One of the following:
- Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC)
- Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP)

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
