Description
Position Summary
The Purchasing Clerk supports the purchasing department by helping source and purchase materials, parts, equipment, and supplies needed for company operations.
This position is designed for someone who has some purchasing or related experience and is interested in building a long-term career in purchasing and procurement. The right person will have the opportunity to learn our materials, vendors, systems, and purchasing processes while gradually taking on greater purchasing responsibility.
Experience with structural steel, fabrication, manufacturing, or construction purchasing is preferred but not required.
Job Duties
- Prepare and process purchase orders for materials, parts, equipment, and supplies.
- Obtain pricing, availability, and delivery information from vendors.
- Track open purchase orders and follow up on deliveries.
- Assist with obtaining and comparing vendor quotes.
- Communicate with vendors and develop strong working relationships.
- Work with production, project management, and other departments to understand material needs.
- Help resolve pricing, quantity, delivery, and invoice discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate purchasing and vendor records.
- Learn company materials, specifications, vendors, and purchasing practices.
- Take on increased sourcing and purchasing responsibilities as experience and knowledge grow.
- Perform other purchasing duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Some previous purchasing, procurement, materials, supply chain, or related experience preferred.
- Strong interest in developing a long-term career in purchasing and procurement.
- Structural steel, fabrication, manufacturing, or construction experience preferred but not required.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and follow-up skills.
- Comfortable working with spreadsheets, purchasing systems, and ERP software.
- Ability to learn materials, specifications, pricing, and vendor relationships.
- Self-motivated and willing to take on additional responsibility as experience grows.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-2 years of purchasing, procurement, materials, supply chain, or related experience preferred.
- Relevant manufacturing, fabrication, construction, or materials experience may be considered in place of direct purchasing experience.
