Industry: Insurance/Brokerage

Salary Range: up to ₱75,000

Work Setup: Onsite

Shift Schedule: Day Shift

Location: Makati City

About the Role:

The Non-Life Insurance Underwriter provides technical underwriting and placement expertise across various non-life insurance lines, with a strong focus on Property Insurance. The role assesses client risks, develops appropriate coverage solutions, prepares market submissions, and negotiates competitive terms with insurers.
The position works closely with clients, Account Executives, and insurance markets to ensure risks are properly understood, effectively placed, and aligned with client requirements while supporting portfolio performance and renewal strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Risk Assessment & Underwriting
- Assess and underwrite non-life risks, including Property, Engineering, Casualty, Marine, Motor, Aviation, and Miscellaneous.
- Analyze submissions, risk surveys, technical reports, claims history, and other relevant information to evaluate exposures.
- Recommend appropriate coverage, limits, deductibles, extensions, warranties, and policy conditions.
- Identify coverage gaps, key exposures, and areas requiring clarification or risk improvement.
- Provide technical guidance to Account Executives on client recommendations and insurance solutions.
Market Placement & Negotiation
- Prepare comprehensive underwriting submissions for presentation to insurers.
- Market risks to multiple insurers and negotiate competitive pricing, coverage, and policy terms.
- Develop placement strategies for complex or non-standard risks, including co-insurance and facultative arrangements where appropriate.
- Evaluate and compare insurer quotations based on coverage, terms, conditions, and overall value—not premium alone.
- Maintain strong relationships with insurer underwriters and other market partners.
Risk Surveys & Loss Prevention
- Review risk survey reports and recommend appropriate risk improvement measures.
- Participate in on-site inspections for high-value or complex risks when required.
- Work with clients, brokers, and insurers on loss prevention and risk mitigation initiatives.
Portfolio & Renewal Management
- Monitor portfolio performance and review loss ratios by line of business.
- Identify market trends, emerging risks, and opportunities for portfolio or product improvement.
- Conduct renewal reviews at least 90 days before expiry and identify opportunities to improve terms or optimize premium.
- Partner with Sales and Account Executives on renewal strategies and placement preparation.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with Account Executives, Sales, Claims, Compliance, and other internal teams to ensure effective client servicing.
- Participate in client meetings, renewal discussions, and technical presentations.
- Provide technical coaching and knowledge-sharing to team members as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in non-life insurance underwriting, broking, or placement.
  • Strong experience in Property and Engineering insurance preferred.
  • Experience handling corporate, complex, high-value, or non-standard risks is an advantage.
  • Experience in insurer negotiation, market placement, and preparation of underwriting submissions.
  • PIRA certification or other relevant insurance qualifications is an advantage.
  • Strong technical knowledge of non-life insurance and underwriting principles.
  • Excellent risk analysis, negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong understanding of corporate insurance requirements and market practices.
