Enterprise Architect
6 Month Contract
Location: London (Onsite 4 days a week)
Rate: £900 - £1000 per day (INSIDE IR35)
We are working with a leading technology consultancy supporting a major Central Government programme and are looking to appoint an experienced DV Cleared Enterprise Architect to lead and shape enterprise architecture across a large, complex and highly regulated environment.
This is a senior role with responsibility for defining current, transition and target-state architectures, developing enterprise roadmaps, providing architectural assurance, and ensuring business, data and technology strategies remain aligned to long-term organisational objectives.
The successful candidate will act as a senior architectural authority, working across programmes, suppliers and delivery teams to ensure architectural coherence and strategic alignment.
Due to the nature of the work this role will be onsite fully time in central London.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the organisation’s Enterprise Architecture
- Define current-state, transition-state and target-state architectures
- Create and manage enterprise roadmaps aligned to strategic outcomes
- Ensure traceability between organisational objectives, capabilities, programmes, projects and technology investments
- Translate business strategy into actionable architectural roadmaps
- Provide independent architectural challenge and assurance across programmes and projects
- Align enterprise architecture with technology and data capability roadmaps
- Identify dependencies across business, application, data and technology domains
- Support investment prioritisation and capability sequencing
- Establish and maintain architecture governance processes, principles and standards
- Review architecture deliverables from internal teams and suppliers
- Identify and escalate architecture risks, issues and technical debt
- Maintain architectural decision records and assurance documentation
- Support legacy rationalisation and transition towards strategic target-state capabilities
- Ensure architecture remains coherent across multiple programmes and suppliers
Architecture Community Leadership
A key early objective will be improving visibility and coordination of architecture activity across the organisation.
You will:
- Establish and lead an Enterprise Architecture Community of Practice
- Create a regular architecture forum across multiple architecture disciplines
- Improve visibility of architectural work and decision-making
- Promote collaboration, standardisation and reuse
- Reduce duplication and conflicting architectural approaches
- Strengthen engagement between embedded architects, programme teams and suppliers
Business, Data and Technology Architecture
The role will work across multiple architecture domains, including:
Business Architecture
- Enterprise capability modelling
- Operating model development
- Strategic business requirements
- Traceability from organisational objectives through to delivery
Data Architecture
- Alignment with enterprise data strategy and data capability roadmaps
- Information architecture consistency
- Enterprise data governance and information management
- Data platform interoperability
Technology Architecture
- Assessment of the current technology landscape
- Technology modernisation and transition planning
- Identification of technology risks and opportunities
- Alignment with strategic technology roadmaps
- Exposure to areas including Zero Trust Architecture, Agentic AI and Event-Driven Architectures
The role will also support work relating to Identity and Access Management, enterprise integration, user lifecycle management and cross-domain information sharing.
Architecture Frameworks and Tooling
The role will make use of:
- ArchiMate
- NATO Architecture Framework (NAF)
- Sparx Enterprise Architect
- Confluence / Prolaborate
- Jira
- MOD and Defence Digital architecture standards where applicable
Essential Experience
- Significant Enterprise Architecture experience within large and complex organisations
- Experience within Central Government, Defence or another highly regulated environment
- Strong understanding of Enterprise Architecture frameworks and methodologies
- Strong experience using ArchiMate
- Experience developing enterprise roadmaps and transition architectures
- Architecture governance and assurance experience
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders and strategic decision-making
- Experience coordinating architecture across multiple suppliers and delivery organisations
- Strong understanding across business, data, application and technology architecture domains
- Experience using Sparx Enterprise Architect
- Experience creating and managing architecture repositories and models
Desirable Experience
- Previous MOD, Defence Digital or DE&S experience
- Experience with the NATO Architecture Framework
- Experience establishing or leading architecture communities of practice
- Large-scale transformation programme experience
- IAM architecture experience
- Experience working alongside CTO and CDO functions
- Experience within agile product, programme or portfolio delivery environments
