Position Summary
The Business Technology Solutions Analyst is an entry-level position on the IT Business Technology Solutions team, intended for a recent graduate who is ready to build a career at the intersection of technology and upstream oil and gas operations. The analyst will learn Chord's operational systems and business processes while supporting the delivery of technology solutions that improve efficiency across the organization.
Working under the direction of senior analysts and IT leadership, the analyst will organize and coordinate enhancement and project backlogs, participate in requirements gathering sessions, document business needs, execute test plans, and assist in the implementation of system enhancements and application updates. As proficiency grows, the analyst will take ownership of smaller enhancements and process improvements, building toward independent delivery of projects of increasing scale and complexity.
Relationship management is a core element of this role. The analyst will serve as a consistent point of contact and resource in IT for assigned business departments, developing familiarity with their people, priorities, and day-to-day workflows. In that capacity the analyst maintains and coordinates the enhancement and project backlog for those departments, keeping requests visible, appropriately prioritized, and clearly communicated so stakeholders always know where their work stands.
The analyst will learn business processes and software used by the Operational, Reserves, and Development Planning functional disciplines of the business. Software involved includes but is not limited to:

Technical curiosity and a willingness to learn are essential. The analyst will develop expertise in hands-on skills with data analysis, SQL querying, reporting, and project management, and will be supported through structured mentorship, cross-training with experienced team members, and vendor-led training on assigned applications.
Candidates must have strong organizational and analytical skills, initiative in problem solving, effective written and verbal communication, and a customer service oriented mindset.
This position is located in Houston, TX. A hybrid work schedule with remote work on Mondays and Fridays as an option. Level and salary commensurate with experience.
Essential Job Functions
Maintain and coordinate the enhancement and project backlog for assigned functional areas, including intake of new requests, capture of scope and business justification, and keeping items current and appropriately prioritized.
Coordinate recurring backlog review sessions with business stakeholders and IT team members to communicate agreed-upon priorities, status, and anticipated project timing.
Serve as a consistent point of contact and resource in IT for assigned business departments, responding to questions, routing requests to the right resource, and sustaining the relationship through routine check-ins and proactive communication on open items.
Provide regular status reporting on backlog items, open support requests, and enhancements currently in progress to business stakeholders and IT leadership.
Participate in requirements gathering sessions and contribute to user interviews and workshop documentation.
Document user needs and prepare use cases, functional requirements, and process flow diagrams.
Execute test plans and assist in the testing and validation of solutions prior to deployment.
Assist in the implementation of system enhancements, application updates, and upgrades under guidance, following the change control framework.
Learn assigned application data models and develop basic SQL queries to retrieve, validate, and troubleshoot data under supervision.
Assist in building data extracts, reports, and dashboards using Excel and Power BI.
Assist in the preparation of training materials and deliver end user training on new systems and processes.
Maintain accurate documentation of processes and configurations in Confluence, and track and update assigned work in Jira.
From time to time job may require some travel, and/or weekend work, to support software/business priorities.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required, in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related technical field
0 to 3 years of professional IT or business operations experience; new and recent graduates are encouraged to apply
Coursework, internship, academic project, or work experience involving relational databases and SQL
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), including Excel functions such as VLOOKUP and pivot tables
Familiarity with AI tools and an understanding of how they can be applied to business processes and day-to-day productivity
Familiarity with the software development lifecycle and agile/waterfall methodologies
Ability to document requirements and process flows clearly using tools such as Word, Excel, Visio, or Confluence
Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to prioritize and track multiple concurrent requests and deliverables
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a service oriented mindset, and comfort working directly with business stakeholders at all levels
Initiative in problem solving, a demonstrated willingness to learn new technical and functional subject matter, and the ability to work effectively under supervision while building toward greater independence

Preferred Qualifications
Internship, co-op, or full-time experience in the Upstream oil and gas industry
Petroleum engineering, geoscience, or a related technical degree paired with demonstrated interest in data, systems, and technology
Exposure to Upstream E&P software supporting Operations, Reserves, or Development Planning related functions (e.g., Peloton WellView / SiteView, Aries, Actenum)
Introductory experience with Power BI, Tableau, or comparable reporting and visualization tools
Familiarity with ticketing and project tracking systems (e.g., Jira, ServiceNow) and collaboration tools (e.g., SharePoint, Confluence)
Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) and basic integration concepts
