Purpose

Multiple positions for undergraduate students are available at Applied Research Laboratories, The University of Texas at Austin (ARL:UT). ARL:UT, the largest organized research unit of the University, is located at the J. J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin – via a free bus ride on Capital Metro or just a short drive from the main campus. ARL:UT offers ongoing, year-round employment for undergraduate students pursuing degrees in fields related to ARL:UT research.

Responsibilities

• Work with full time research staff and may perform a variety of functions such as assisting in the design, programming, testing and integration of project-related software; developing tools to process, store, query, and analyze large amounts of data; conducting research and performing experiments; performing computer-aided design (CAD), analysis, and associated mechanical engineering tasks; circuit design, debugging, and integration

• Other related science and engineering support tasks.

Required Qualifications

• Must be a current student at The University of Texas at Austin or another institution of higher learning and meet the University's student employment eligibility requirements, including enrollment in at least six (6) semester credit hours, unless otherwise eligible under University policy.

• Pursuit of a degree related to fields related to ARL:UT research (including but not limited to: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering)

• Most positions also require ability or strong interest in a variety of programming languages, including but not limited to Java, Python, Matlab and C++.

• Federal Work/Study award not required, but if you are work study, please include verification of work study award with your application.

US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in programming languages including but not limited to Java, Python, Matlab and C++.
• Demonstrated commitment to learning typically demonstrated by a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

General Notes

ARL offers partial tuition reimbursement to undergraduate students who meet certain academic and work hour requirements.

This position is posted as a UT Austin Student position however, other qualified students are also invited to apply. Please note, a different UT title will be used for non-UT students, however, all other aspects of the position will remain the same.

ARL student positions are reviewed for reappointment every semester.

Salary Range

$23.00/hour + /depending on student classification and relevant experience

Work Shift:

Most ARL:UT undergraduate student positions have flexible work hours, with as few as 10-15 hours per week generally being acceptable during long semesters, and with additional flexibility in consideration of a student’s academic obligations such as tests and final exams. Many students who work at ARL do so throughout their academic careers, working part time during the long semesters and full time during the summer semesters.
