The Manager, MDM & Governance is responsible for leading, establishing, operating, and continuously improving Master Data Management (MDM), Data Catalog, Data/AI Governance, Change Management.
This role provides both strategic direction and hands‑on leadership, working closely with China business stakeholders, regional and global data teams, and platform teams to ensure critical data domains are well‑defined, governed, discoverable, and trusted, while remaining compliant with company policies and local regulatory requirements. The role also represents China in enterprise data governance initiatives and contributes to the evolution of global data governance frameworks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Master Data Management (MDM)
- Lead the identification, definition, and governance of key master data domains for the China region.
- Own and oversee the design, implementation, and ongoing operation of MDM processes, including data modeling, hierarchies, reference data, and lifecycle management.
- Provide direction and oversight for master data integration and synchronization across upstream and downstream systems.
- Act as the primary China counterpart for regional/global MDM platforms and standards.
Data Catalog & Metadata Management
- Drive the onboarding and adoption of China data assets into the enterprise data catalog.
- Ensure high‑quality technical, business, and operational metadata through stewardship models and governance processes.
- Partner with data owners and stewards to define business definitions, classifications, lineage, and ownership.
- Promote data discoverability, reuse, and self‑service analytics across the China organization.
Data Governance, AI Governance & Quality
- Lead the implementation of data governance policies, standards, and controls aligned with global frameworks and China‑specific regulatory requirements.
- Oversee data quality management practices, including rules definition, monitoring, issue prioritization, and remediation coordination.
- Ensure appropriate data classification, access controls, and compliant data usage in accordance with company policy and external regulations (e.g., China privacy and data regulations).
- Serve as a key point of contact for governance, privacy, and risk‑related discussions involving China data.
· Define and implement AI governance frameworks, policies, and controls for AI and GenAI use cases in the China region, aligned with global standards and China regulatory requirements.
· Establish guidelines for responsible AI usage, including model risk management, explainability, fairness, and security considerations.
· Oversee lifecycle governance for AI models, including intake, validation, deployment, monitoring, and periodic review.
· Lead change management with internal business clients to drive adoption of MDM, data governance, data quality, data catalog, and AI governance practices, including stakeholder engagement, communications, training, and feedback management.
Key Experiences & Attributes
- 10+ years of experience in data management, data governance, MDM, change management or related data roles, with demonstrated leadership responsibility.
- Strong hands‑on and conceptual expertise in Master Data Management (domains, hierarchies, reference data, stewardship).
- Experience leading or influencing data governance, AI governance, and data quality programs at a regional or enterprise level.
- Practical experience with data catalog and metadata management tools (e.g., Purview, Collibra).
- Solid understanding of cloud data platforms and environments (Azure or AWS; e.g., Snowflake, Databricks).
- Ability to work effectively with senior business leaders, internal business clients, technical teams, and global stakeholders, including change management and adoption activities.
- Proven capability to operate in matrixed regional and global environments.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Proactive leadership mindset with the ability to drive continuous improvement in data governance maturity.
