CWB Level 1 or 2 Inspector

Position Summary

 

Tacten is seeking a CWB Level 1 or Level 2 Inspector to support maintenance activities at our Syncrude site in Fort McMurray, AB.

• Start date: October 2026
• Site: Syncrude
• Shift: 5/10 maintenance rotation
• IRATA Level 1 ticket required, or willingness to obtain
• Candidates must be local to Fort McMurray, AB or willing to relocate

Responsibilities

• Observe welding and fabrication activities in progress to ensure conformance with applicable requirements, procedures, and acceptable workmanship standards.
• Conduct inspections of structural, process piping, and power piping systems from material verification through fabrication, installation, testing, and final commissioning.
• Review applicable procedures, codes, standards, drawings, and specifications to assess compliance and determine acceptance of inspection and testing results.
• Review Work Scope Packages to confirm inspection requirements, documentation, and quality expectations are clearly defined and met.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, welding documentation, and other project requirements to support inspection activities.
• Identify non-conformances and deficiencies, document findings, and communicate required corrective actions to the appropriate project personnel.
• Review inspection and test reports for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable project and code requirements.
• Maintain accurate inspection records and documentation in accordance with project and company quality requirements.

Requirements

• CWB Level 1 or Level 2 certification required.
• Previous Quality Control (QC) experience in a welding, fabrication, piping, or structural environment is an asset.
• IRATA certification required, or willingness to obtain certification.
• Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including ASME B31.3, B31.1, Section VIII Division 1, Section IX, Section II, CSA W47.1, and CSA W59.3 is an asset.
• Knowledge of NDT methods, including radiographic testing (RT), magnetic particle testing (MT), liquid penetrant testing (PT), and other applicable inspection methods is an asset.
• Ability to review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, welding procedures, inspection requirements, and Work Scope Packages.
• Experience reviewing inspection and testing documentation and identifying discrepancies or non-conformances is an asset.
• Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple inspection and documentation requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to identify discrepancies and ensure compliance with project, code, and quality requirements.
