Senior Commissioning Project Manager - Data Center Construction

We are seeking an experienced Senior Commissioning Project Manager to lead the delivery and commissioning of large-scale data center and mission-critical infrastructure projects in Austin, TX. This role will oversee all phases of project execution and commissioning, from design review and procurement through startup, integrated systems testing (IST), and final turnover. The ideal candidate will ensure critical systems are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and meet the highest standards of reliability and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead project delivery and commissioning activities from design through construction, testing, and turnover.
• Serve as the primary client point of contact, managing project scope, schedule, budget, risk mitigation, and stakeholder communications.
• Coordinate owners, engineers, contractors, vendors, utility providers, and testing firms to ensure successful project delivery.
• Review design packages, equipment submittals, system diagrams, protection studies, and commissioning requirements.
• Develop and manage commissioning plans, startup procedures, functional performance tests, integrated systems testing (IST), deficiency logs, and final commissioning documentation.
• Oversee installation, startup, commissioning, and testing of critical infrastructure systems, including power distribution, backup power, controls, and related facility systems.
• Verify equipment performance, operational readiness, and compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and safety protocols.
• Manage contractor performance, procurement activities, contract administration, change management, and project reporting.
• Lead project meetings, resolve technical issues, and provide leadership throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
• Travel as required to support projects across the United States.
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
• 8+ years of experience in project management, commissioning, mission-critical facilities, data centers, or large-scale construction projects.
• Strong understanding of critical facility infrastructure, power distribution systems, backup power systems, controls, and facility operations.
• Experience leading startup, commissioning, integrated systems testing (IST), and turnover for large-scale data center or mission-critical projects.
• Knowledge of NFPA, IEEE, NETA, ASHRAE, and industry commissioning best practices.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects, multi-million-dollar budgets, schedules, and cross-functional teams.
• Excellent leadership, client-facing communication, negotiation, and technical documentation skills.

The salary range for this full-time role is $115,700.00-$161,966.69 per year. Ranges are determined based on the position, geography, client and industry experience and level, and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary. This range reflects base salary only, and not the total compensation package. Cumming Group reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range, depending on a candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications, including client requirements.
