Job Description Summary

Organization's Summary Statement:
The Frederick Douglass Library at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applicants to apply for a full-time, non-exempt position with full benefits. This is a daytime position (8:00 - 5:00) with rotating Saturdays.

Salary Range: $44,053 - $49,000

Benefits: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore, as a University System of Maryland institution and a Maryland State agency, provides a comprehensive benefits package to all regular faculty and

Accounts (TIAA, Fidelity, or MSRP-Nationwide) with $600 annual state
match, Life Insurance (state sponsored MetLife, USM
sponsored MetLife Plan, life insurance and long-term disability insurance).
• Tuition remission benefits for eligible employees and, subject to USM
policies, spouses and dependents at University System of Maryland
institutions.
• Non-exempt positions start at 11 days annual per year, sick leave 15 days
per year, personal leave 3 days per year). Overtime, shift-differential and on-
call pay and paid holidays.
• Employee wellness and support resources and access to the State of
Maryland wellness programs.

Responsibilities: Under general supervision, performs assigned tasks within one or more library functional areas.
• Utilizes library software as systems to retrieve and enter data.
• Performs assigned staff functions within the library management system.
• Uses designated library systems, tools, standards, and processes to create,
describe, and organize a variety of library information resources.
• Provides customers with information and guidance in finding and retrieving
library information resources.
• Charges and renews books and other materials for customers using the
library management system.
• Performs basic troubleshooting of technical problems and resolves or
refers problems to others as appropriate.
• Receives and resolves customer complaints or makes referrals as
necessary.
• Applies knowledge of library collections and other accessible resources to
fulfill customer needs.
• Answers inquiries regarding basic policies relate to access and use of
library collections and services.
• Maintains local physical collections to include sorting and shelving
materials, preparing materials for shipping and receiving processes for
library materials.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
• Manual dexterity, physical mobility, and some physical strength/stamina.
• May require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at
desk.
• May require lifting.
• Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and
internally.
• Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE: Two years of experience directly related to the primary duties of the position.

OTHER:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Working knowledge of the nature and function of libraries and terminology; of library services, practices and procedures, and quality customer service and teamwork. Skill in alphabetic and numeric filing; proficiency and adaptability in using common computing, productivity, and information discovery tools, and library software to input and retrieve information. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and staff; to work independently and exercise initiative in applying rules, procedures and instructions; skill in basic problem solving; ability to learn new and emerging library methods and skills; ability to learn and apply library policies and practices related to access and use of information resources; ability to perform minor troubleshooting on technology devices and software; ability to lift, transport, sort, and shelve library materials.

OTHER:

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
