Job Title: Public Health Nurse 

Salary/Wage: $38.39/per hr. $40.55/per hr. 

Tribal Level: TL 123.1-$124.1

Location: Siletz, OR.

INTRODUCTION:

This position provides public health nursing services to promote and protect the health of Tribal members and the community. Responsibilities include health promotion, disease prevention, communicable disease control, chronic disease management, care coordination, community outreach, and collaboration with Tribal programs, healthcare providers, and community partners to improve individual and community health outcomes through culturally responsive and evidence-based practices.

DUTIES:

  • Integrates public health principles with clinical nursing practice to support program staff with adult and child health, communicable/reportable disease prevention and control, chronic disease management, and maternal and child health (prenatal and postpartum support), and health promotion needs across the lifespan.
  • Leads communicable disease reporting, case investigation, contact trace and treatment follow-up in accordance with public health requirements
  • Participates in the planning and evaluation of public health programs and services to assess effectiveness and support quality improvement. Maintains accurate documentation and required reports in accordance with policy and regulatory requirements. Maintains professional competency through continuing education and adherence to professional nursing standards.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to situations that may arise. 
  • Use critical thinking skills to adjust actions in order to provide patient centered care. 
  • Adapt to rapidly changing situations. 
  • Use effective written and oral communication skills to explain complex medical issues, work with team members and providers, and discuss difficult or sensitive issues.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

TL 123: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Oregon. Minimum of three (3) years nursing experience, including two (2) years in a clinical or community health setting. 

TL 124.2: After two (2) years of satisfactory evaluations, the position will transition to RN II.


TL 124: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Oregon. Minimum of three (3) years nursing experience, including two (2) years in a clinical or community health setting. Placement above 124.1 may be considered based on qualifying experience exceeding 2 years


Knowledge of:

  • Community and public health nursing principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Disease prevention, health promotion, population health, and community-based health interventions.
  • Population health assessment methods and strategies used to identify and address community health needs.
  • Epidemiology principles and communicable disease surveillance, investigation, reporting, and control measures.
  • Public health response activities, including case investigation, contact follow-up, outbreak response, and immunization practices.
  • Federal, state, Tribal, and local public health regulations, standards, and reporting requirements.

Ability to:

  • Coordinate care and collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, tribal programs, community organizations, and public health partners.
  • Established public health policies, procedures, guidelines, and applicable nurse practice act; exercise sound judgment within the scope of assessment


Other:

  • BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and be eligible to drive a GSA Vehicle.
