General Maintenance Technician
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor/Manager
Location: Alma, Michigan
Status: Full-Time
Position Summary
The General Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment and facility systems to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted production operations. This position supports injection molding machines of various tonnage ranges, automated paint line systems, assembly and secondary equipment, robotics, material handling systems, and facility infrastructure.
The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills and can work independently to diagnose and repair equipment issues while maintaining a safe work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair manufacturing equipment, including:
- Injection molding machines of varying tonnage capacities
- Automated paint line equipment
- Assembly line and secondary operation equipment
- Auxiliary processing equipment
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) activities to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability.
- Respond promptly to machine and equipment breakdowns.
- Install, modify, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, and equipment drawings.
- Troubleshoot motors, drives, sensors, relays, PLC-controlled equipment, and automated systems.
- Repair or replace defective mechanical components such as bearings, belts, pumps, valves, gears, cylinders, and actuators.
- Perform welding, fabrication, and machining tasks as required.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, PM documentation, and work orders.
- Assist with equipment upgrades, installations, and process improvement projects.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, environmental regulations, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in maintenance areas and throughout the facility.
- Work flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends, and emergency call-ins as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience maintaining injection molding equipment and auxiliary systems preferred, but not required.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in:
- Mechanical systems
- Electrical systems
- Hydraulics
- Pneumatics
- Automation equipment
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and maintenance diagnostic equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, and kneel throughout the shift.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and more with assistance when required.
- Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, heat, and moving equipment.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when necessary.
