The role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team for a key barrage rehabilitation project. The role will involve the assessment, design, and rehabilitation of mechanical gate systems, hoists, and associated equipment, supporting the project team in delivering safe, reliable, and practical solutions.

• Conduct condition assessments of barrage gates, pocket gates, head regulator gates, hoists, and associated mechanical equipment.

• Review existing drawings, maintenance records, operating history, and inspection results to identify mechanical condition and rehabilitation requirements.

• Assess and design radial and vertical-lift gates, hoisting systems, trunnions, seals, embedded parts, and associated mechanical components.

• Develop rehabilitation, refurbishment, and replacement options and prepare mechanical designs, drawings, specifications, and BOQs.

• Support technical specifications, bidding documents, procurement, contractor submissions, fabrication inspections, testing, and commissioning.

• Provide technical input to barrage safety, feasibility, detailed design, and other project reports, working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team.

You will bring proven experience in mechanical engineering design and rehabilitation, with strong knowledge of hydraulic gate systems and associated equipment, along with good communication and teamwork skills.

Suitable applicants will have/be:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s degree is an advantage.

• Minimum 15 years of relevant professional experience, including at least 5 years in the design, rehabilitation, or maintenance of gates, hoists, and mechanical equipment for dams, barrages, or major hydraulic infrastructure.

• Experience with radial/vertical-lift gates, hoisting systems, trunnions, seals, embedded parts, and NDT/condition assessment.

• Good knowledge of relevant international standards, including BS, ASTM, and EN.

• Experience with World Bank or other MDB-funded infrastructure projects is highly desirable.

• Good communication, documentation, coordination, and teamwork skills.
