Job Description:

Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Biostatistician in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The Biostatistician supports the research mission of Pennington Biomedical by providing statistical and analytical support for a variety of biomedical and research studies. This position works collaboratively with biostatistics faculty, staff, investigators, and multidisciplinary research teams to prepare and manage research data, develop statistical programs, conduct statistical analyses, and interpret and communicate research findings. The Biostatistician will manage assigned projects and priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, reproducibility, and quality in all statistical and research activities. The level of independence and complexity of assigned work will vary based on the employee's qualifications and experience.

Major Responsibilities

• Prepares, cleans, and organizes research data and analysis datasets from raw or source data for statistical analysis.
• Performs data management, data quality review, and data editing to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of research datasets.
• Develops, modifies, and maintains programs, macros, and other analytical tools using statistical programming software to support research projects.
• Conducts statistical analyses using standard and as appropriate, advanced statistical methods and software under the guidance of biostatistics faculty or senior staff.
• Assists with the development and implementation of statistical analysis plans, including identifying appropriate statistical methods and approaches for research questions.
• Reviews data and analytical results to identify trends, inconsistencies, errors, or other issues and communicates findings to biostatistics faculty, senior staff, and research collaborators.
• Collaborates with investigators, research staff, and other members of multidisciplinary research teams to support the statistical and analytical needs of research projects.
• Assists with the interpretation and presentation of statistical findings and prepares tables, figures, and other data summaries for research projects.
• Contributes to abstracts, posters, reports, presentations, manuscripts, and other research-related publications and deliverables.
• Documents statistical programming, analytical methods, data management processes, and procedures to promote reproducibility, consistency, and quality of research activities.
• Maintains organized and reproducible analytical files, programs, datasets, and supporting documentation in accordance with established research and data management practices.
• Assists with troubleshooting statistical programming, data, and analytical issues and works with senior biostatistics staff to identify appropriate solutions.
• Prioritizes and manages assigned work in collaboration with biostatistics faculty or senior staff, including meeting established project timelines and deadlines.
• Maintains a high level of accuracy and attention to detail when managing research data, developing statistical programs, conducting analyses, and preparing research deliverables.
• Keeps current with applicable statistical methods, programming techniques, software, and research practices relevant to assigned projects.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support the statistical and research objectives of the center.

 

*As part of a career progression group, this vacancy may be filled as a Biostatician 1 or 2 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.

Complexity differences:

Biostatistician 1
Performs assigned biostatistical and data management activities under the direct supervision and guidance of biostatistics faculty or senior staff. Work typically involves established methods, procedures, and analytical approaches, with increasing responsibility as proficiency is demonstrated.

Biostatistician 2
Performs biostatistical and data management activities with increasing independence and applies established and advanced statistical methods to research projects. Works collaboratively with biostatistics faculty, senior staff, investigators, and research teams to develop analytical approaches, interpret results, and meet project objectives.

Required Qualifications

Biostatistician I

• Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics, Epidemiology, Data Science, or a closely related quantitative field.
• No professional experience required; relevant graduate-level research, internship, practicum, or academic experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of statistical principles and methods applicable to biomedical, clinical, epidemiological, or other research.
• Experience with statistical software and programming, such as SAS, R, Python, Stata, or similar software.
• Experience preparing, cleaning, organizing, and analyzing research or other complex datasets.
• Ability to develop and modify statistical programs, macros, or analytical code.
• Ability to communicate statistical information and research findings effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate, organized, and reproducible analytical work.
• Ability to work collaboratively with biostatisticians, investigators, research staff, and multidisciplinary teams.

Biostatistician II

• Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics, Epidemiology, Data Science, or a closely related quantitative field.
• Two (2) or more years of professional experience applying statistical methods to biomedical, clinical, epidemiological, public health, or other research.
• Demonstrated experience using statistical software and programming languages, such as SAS, R, Python, Stata, or similar software, to manage and analyze complex datasets.
• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing statistical analysis plans and selecting appropriate statistical methods for research questions.
• Experience conducting statistical analyses using regression, longitudinal, mixed-effects, or other advanced statistical methods.
• Experience interpreting statistical results and communicating findings to investigators, research staff, and other audiences with varying levels of statistical expertise.
• Experience contributing to scientific abstracts, presentations, reports, manuscripts, or other research publications.
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple analytical assignments, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain high-quality and reproducible work.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
