Rewind Operator|Yakima|HIRING IMMEDIATELY

 

Pay: $19.72 - $22.17  Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and technical knowledge.

 

 

POSITION PURPOSE

The Rewind Operator is responsible for the production and quality of products run on the Rewinder.  Works with team members to ensure safety, productivity, reliability, and team engagement are always focused on.  Success relies on the individual’s motivation and determination to engage and participate in Continuous Improvement continuously. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Novolex employees are expected to maintain a safe, clean, and organized workplace always.  Rewind Operators are essentially responsible for all duties contained within the Offbearer job description. Operators are held accountable for Quality Control, Data Collection, and labeling of finished products that are manufactured on their line(s). Operators must have completed the Operator Trainee programs and be certified through the training department. Operators must pass auditing protocols on the actual bag machine and Downstream Equipment, and all testing equipment utilized for quality control checks.

 

FUNCTIONS:

  • Checks scheduling box daily for orders.
  • Confirm specification sheets and related paperwork are attached to the job ticket with clear and understandable work instructions.
  • Locate product and take to workstation.
  • Set up re-wind machine to specifications attached to job ticket.
  • Secure all supplies needed to run the order (cores, labels, boxes, etc.).
  • Run the order to specifications.
  • Confirm all rolls have a white core label identifying the operator and product.
  • Keep accurate account of finished or shippable product on Rework Form or Daily Rewind Production Record form.
  • Record the amount of product received, produced, net weight, and amount of product kept on hold, on the reverse side of the job ticket.
  • Follow specifications as per order or Shields Standard Packaging Book.
  • All documentation is to be returned to scheduling upon completion.
  • Keep aisles and work area clean to ensure a safe work environment.

 

Company policies, procedures, and practices are implemented via this position.  Quality of products is directly related to the effectiveness of individuals in this job.  A broad base of current technical knowledge is required to ensure that standards are met and efficiencies maintained.  Problem solving and decision-making abilities are essential for success.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

                                                 Forklift certification

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

  • Desire to learn new skills and work in a team environment
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office and PRMS Skills (Excel, Word)
  • Lean/Continuous improvement oriented.

 

Ongoing training and education are essential to continuing improving work processes.  All Novolex employees will be expected to attend training and education sessions.

Physical Activities and Requirements of this Position

 

Finger Dexterity: Using almost all fingers on both hands to grasp, pinch, grip mechanical parts and plastic materials.

 

Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly. Must be able to communicate in English.

 

Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

 

Repetitive Motions: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, including reaching below the waist and occasionally overhead.

 

Standing/Sitting: Standing for long periods of time, full use of lower and upper extremities is essential. Very short intervals of sitting throughout the course of a shift.

 

Visual Abilities: Visual acuity is necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products or operate machinery. Must be able to identify and match color variations.

 

Physical Strength: Must be able to lift 50+ pounds from ground to shoulder occasionally, frequently lifting up to 40 pounds.  Rolls are laid down from the standing position with the use of a lever.  Rolls vary in weight and size (hoist are in place to load rolls onto the machines). 

 

Working Conditions:

 

Employees are exposed to various smells, varied levels of noise (hearing protection required in most areas), varied temperatures, moving parts on all machinery posing dangerous conditions. Employees are expected to maintain all safety standards and comply with any and all safety measures and precautions.

 

HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT

Typical hours of this position are scheduled between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm OR 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, rotating every 28-days.  This is a non-exempt position and is paid hourly.  Overtime regulations do apply.  Holidays, sick leave, vacation, etc. as dictated by the NOVOLEX company policies.

 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

 

NOT APPLICABLE:                               

SELDOM:         (1 - 10% of the time)

OCCATIONAL: (10 – 30% of the time)           

FREQUENT:     (30 – 70% of the time)

CONSTANT:     (over 70% of the time)           

 

STANDING:     (Constant) The person is required to be on their feet while monitoring machines, tensions, and speeds.

           

WALKING:       (Constant) Moving among the machines to monitor the process.  Walking is required to get to the break room area; approximately 100-150 feet.

           

LIFTING:  (Frequently) From waist level to tabletop level, the operator is required to lift a metal cylinder and or airshafts that the rolls are slid onto, weighing between 30-50lbs.  Less than occasional is the operator required to retrieve finished rolls, to be reworked, from a cardboard bin.  Each roll weighs between 25 – 105 lbs.  Much heavier rolls, weighing up to 400 lbs., are stacked on end or laid down on a pallet.  Rolls stacked on end are leaned over by placing a leverage bar inside the core of the roll.  Rolls are then pulled over and lowered with 200 lbs., or less, of force.  Heavier rolls are also placed on a “Big Joe” lift to be transferred to the rewind machine.  Finished rolls are lifted from the machine and placed on a bench for further labeling and wrapping and then placed back into a bin for shipping.      

 

ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE

 

  • Work is performed indoors, 12 hours per shift.
  • Temperature range is 70 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Noise or vibration is within acceptable decibel levels but hearing protection is available
  • Hazards core cutter has built in safety devices and is within state/federal compliance.
  • Work aids consist of tape measure, box knife, scale, pallet jack, tape dispenser, clipboard.
  • Protective clothing or devices consist of ear protection provided by the employer.
  • Ways to Modify Job: A pivot stand can be used as a fulcrum to support the 120” core stock as it is retrieved from the crib. The core cutter would not have to lift or hold the 19-lb. core.  They could pull it from the crib, balance it, and guide it onto the cutter shaft.

    WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Position requires working outside and inside for extended periods of time.
  • Noise or vibration is within acceptable decibel levels but hearing protection is available.
  • Smells are various and will be continuous throughout the shift.
  • Hazards – see job hazardous analysis.
  • Work aids training checklists and work instructions.
  • Protective clothing or devices consist of eye wear, safety or composite toed shoes, head protection and hearing protection.

    MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

     

    Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables.

     

    Mathematics Ability: Ability to perform basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing two-digit numbers; to perform the four basic arithmetic operations with money; to perform operations with units such as inch, foot, etc.

     

    Language Ability: Ability to write complex sentences, using proper punctuation, and use adjectives and adverbs.

     

    Ability to communicate in English, using complex sentences; using normal word order with present and past tenses; using a good vocabulary.

     

    Other Employment Information

     

    Housekeeping:

    • Responsible for keeping area clean
    • Must keep tools and miscellaneous metal parts off floor (out of scrap)
    • Keep drinks and food off computer terminals
    • Dispose of old labels (to avoid mislabeling)
    • Put used knife blades in proper receptacle

     

    Telephone Calls:

    • In order to keep the phone lines free for business calls, please limit your personal calls to emergency situations. Any incoming calls will be discouraged. During normal working hours the company will make every effort to forward messages to employees, but the company will not be responsible for lost or missing messages. Messages will also be put on computer and can be retrieved when checking in or out. When a phone call is truly and emergency, employees will be paged to the phone.

     

    Visitors:

    • There are no visitors allowed in the plant. Any visitors that come to the visitor’s area must push the red button, when someone answers the call, they will page the appropriate person to the visitors area.

     

    Forklifts:

    • Only qualified and licensed personnel are allowed to drive forklifts.

     

    Destruction of Equipment:

    • Destruction of company equipment and property is reason for immediate discharge. This applies to use of utility razor knives on any equipment, such as rubber or metal rollers.

     

    Rest Periods:

    • All employees will be allowed breaks and rest periods in accordance with state and federal regulations. Each employee must assume responsibility for not abusing the breaks by overstaying the time. Employees shall not leave the premises during breaks without prior permission of the supervisor.

     

    Use of Tobacco Products:

    • Smoking and chewing of tobacco is allowed at the designated break area only. This area is located outside of the building on the Rock Ave. side of the building. There is no use of Tobacco products inside any of the company buildings.

     

    Dress Standards:

    In general, all employees are required to come to work in clothing appropriate for the work performed. Shorts and loose-fitting clothing with straps that are likely to become entangled in machinery are inappropriate for production work. All employees must wear shoes that completely cover their feet. Flip flops or sandals are unsafe and may not be word. If you are employed in areas frequented by customers, you should be especially careful of your apparel and keep it as neat as possible. Inappropriately dressed individuals may be asked to leave and change. Apparel with suggestive or coarse material will not be tolerated.  It is highly recommended that employees do not wear any form of jewelry for safety reasons.
