Senior CMT & Special Inspector

GeoEngineers is seeking an experienced professional to provide technical expertise, guidance, and quality oversight for Construction Materials Testing (CMT) and Special Inspections services. This senior-level individual contributor will perform testing and inspection activities, serve as a technical resource to field technicians, inspectors, project teams, contractors, and clients, and share technical knowledge with less-experienced staff.

The Senior CMT & Special Inspector will apply strong technical knowledge and independent judgment to support quality, safety, compliance, and successful project delivery. The role supports project teams with field activities, documentation, coordination, and technical requirements. 

The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to build trusted relationships with clients, contractors, engineers, and colleagues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Help build and support the continued development and growth of GeoEngineers' CMT practice. 
• Perform Construction Materials Testing and Special Inspections services in accordance with project plans, specifications, building codes, and applicable industry standards. 
• Apply independent technical judgment to evaluate field conditions, inspection findings, test results, and code compliance requirements. 
• Serve as a technical resource regarding testing, inspection, quality assurance, and compliance requirements for project teams, clients, contractors, and colleagues. 
• Complete and review field reports, testing documentation, and project records to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable standards and regulations. 
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, contractors, engineers, project teams, and other project stakeholders. 
• Coordinate with project teams regarding field activities, scheduling, equipment, and project requirements. 
• Maintain required certifications and uphold GeoEngineers' safety, quality, and professional service standards. 
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree, technical training, or equivalent industry education preferred.
• Minimum of five years of construction inspection and/or materials testing experience.
• Current ICC and WABO inspector certifications for structural welding and high-strength bolting, reinforced concrete, and structural masonry; ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I certification; and nuclear density gauge operator certification.
• Certifications in spray-applied fire-resistive materials (SFRM), proprietary anchors, lateral wood framing, post-tensioned concrete, ACI Aggregate Testing Technician, ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician, or other applicable specialty inspection disciplines preferred.
• Demonstrated technical expertise in construction materials testing, special inspections, applicable building codes, and industry standards, including the ability to interpret plans, specifications, drawings, and related documents.
• Strong technical judgment and the ability to identify, evaluate, and communicate quality or compliance concerns.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare accurate inspection reports and build effective working relationships with clients, contractors, project teams, and colleagues.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing project requirements.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and professional service.
• Valid driver's license. One year of driving experience in the United States. Consideration will be provided for international driving experience.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

• Ability to perform consistent work on a PC with prolonged view of a monitor/screen. 
• Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities and do heavy work including exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
• Ability and willingness to travel as needed.

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position, located in San Diego, CA, is $92,000 - 139,000 annually. Compensation offered will be based on a variety of individual factors, including education and experience, as well as internal equity. GeoEngineers’ salary ranges are reviewed and updated each year, and employees are eligible for pay increases based on individual performance. As part of our competitive total rewards package, employees in this role may also be eligible for our annual year-end bonus offering, subject to program eligibility requirements.
