The Product Design and Application Engineer in Gutor shall work in a multi-national, multi-faceted team of leading engineers and experts. In this role, the engineer is expected to technically lead and execute exciting development projects, including sustainability projects, new product development/introduction, industrial standard compliance, cost-optimization and design standardization. The engineer will also support to assembly, testing, quality and site related troubleshooting, defining industry standard compliant business-driven professional decisions and processes, ensuring the best solutions are provided withholding the highest standards of Gutor design.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work with internal team and external suppliers on qualifying new magnetics supplier, support quality and testbay technical investigations including 8D report review, and supporting customized magnetic specifications based on customer requirements
• Support front end / production / quality / field service in electrical system and component characteristic and design inquiries based on Gutor design rules, knowledge and experience
• Able to contribute to sustaining / development projects that leaves a measurable positive impact to the business of Gutor in addition to supporting daily business.
• To maintain and create engineering databases and design / process documentations which are compliant to industry standards
• Have an advance-level understanding of engineering design impact across multiple discipline (e.g. process flow, production feasibility, front-end team capability, physical impact on system like space, heat, voltage-risk, etc.)
• Additional duties to drive product design expertise include:
  • Evaluation and release of Special Releases (SR**)
  • ** feasibility, cost and technical review of non standardized system types and special options
  • Prepare and provide technical training, lesson learnt and knowledge/process sharing to the team on a intra- and inter-department level.
  • Review and actively contribute to the update of design rules and other technical / quality / manufacturing documents
  • Able to utilize UPS system design concept, calculations, component sizing and selection to drive improvement projects, provide ETO solutions and support critical technical issues from production, engineering, site, testing, sales/marketing, quality and purchasing teams
  • Able to plan, conduct or coordinate engineering analysis, testing, report summary for investigative, supportive and development activities
  • Familiarize with applicable industry standards for UPS and it’s relevant components (IEC, UL, ATEX, etc.)
• Additional duties to drive 3rd Party Products topics include:
  • Subject matter experts for dedicated commodities (e.g. breakers/fuses, diodes, PLC/DCS, etc.)
  • To provide technical support for third party products used to build our solutions for customer.
  • To lead and maintain the implementation of Distribution panels, Automatic Transfer Switches, Static Transfer Switches, Voltage Dropper etc.
  • To define and drive testing procedures and templates required for part qualification of new part introduction together with testbay and quality team
  • To implement clear design rules how to integrate third party products in a full customer solution.
  • To work closely with the purchasing department on supporting technical queries for implementation and qualification of new vendors.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS – REQUIRED

• Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or equivalent
• Candidate must possess strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, material and international standards knowledge and manufacturing process for Transformer and Choke design (specifically for UPS design is a plus)
  • Able to generate bill of materials (BOM)
  • Able to perform basic transformer sizing calculations (no load loss, efficiency, inductance sizing, voltage drop, coil ratio, k-factor)
  • Able to explain transformer design in detail and propose solutions based on application-level issues (e.g. how to improve efficiency, comply different insulation class, reduce harmonic content)
  • Familiar with IEC 60076
  • Have experience in transformer testing. (Routine Test, Type Test and Special Test)
  • Involve in transformer failure investigation and analysis and prepare the 8D reports.
  • Engage with supplier for technical specification clarification.
• Electrical design engineering or equivalent experience (minimum 5 years)
• Project management or execution experience (minimum 3 years)
• Capable to self-organize and drive multiple work priorities in parallel effectively
• Decision-making, able to take decisive actions based on technical and procedural facts and experience
• Capable to follow and practice international standard process flows and safety regulations tailored to Gutor requirements
• In depth understanding on fabrication of low voltage electrical system (UPS is a plus), and can understand the effects of multi-discipline design based on any changes caused
• Expert in understanding and creating engineering electrical drawing, BOM, calculations and design rules
• Fully understand Gutor processes and practices over all its locations
• Candidate must be willing to work in different shifts to accommodate technical support across different time zones
• Proficient in written and spoken English language
• Shall be able to use MS. Office suite (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Additional skills as a product design and application engineer include:

  • Familiarize with all Gutor’s portfolio of products on a design level
• Additional skills to drive 3rd Party Products topics include:
  • Understand the process of hands-on testing on low voltage power system or equipment for troubleshooting or technical studies
  • Have good sense of what data point and measurement types are critical for every test and produce concise reports with all relevant essential information captured
  • Able to plan and lead testing activities and communicate effectively to test engineers

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS – DESIRED BUT NOT ESSENTIAL

• Knowledge / experience in design of UPS, distribution panel, LV/MV switchgears, transformers or chokes, high power capacitors, cables, protection devices such as breakers, PLC, voltage dropper or blocking diodes, high power thyristors or power modulator, etc.
• PDM (Part Data management) applications
• SAP user level
• Familiar with construction of low voltage electrical system within a cabinet (e.g. UPS, switchgear, distribution panel, server rack, etc.)
• Able to read and understand engineering electrical drawing (SLD, schematics, BOM)
