Job Description
 

Medical Scientist - HIV, Russia, Saint-Petersburg

Gilead Sciences Russia is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Medical Scientist (MS). The successful candidate will assume a full-time employment role in the capacity of Medical Scientist in the HIV therapeutic area and will report to Country Medical Director. The role will be field-based, and requires travel up to 70% of the time. 

Position Description:

As the Medical Scientist, you are responsible to provide scientific/medical guidance throughout product life cycle to the stakeholders in collaboration and close communication with the Russia Medical Affairs members, cross-functional colleagues, global Medical Affairs and other key functions.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

Primary responsibilities are as follow:

1. Scientific Exchange & Medical Education

  • Serve as a trusted scientific partner by providing balanced, evidence-based information on HIV and Gilead products.

  • Address medical inquiries, including on- and off-label questions, in compliance with regulations.

  • Develop and deliver scientific presentations, educational programs, publications, and other medical resources.

  • Maintain deep HIV expertise through continuous learning.

  • Generate insights on the evolving HIV landscape to adjust strategy and engagement.

  • Drive the generation and dissemination of clinical and real-world evidence in HIV, identifying research and publication opportunities.

  • Represent Medical Affairs at national and international scientific congresses by identifying, critically evaluating, and communicating key scientific insights and emerging evidence, supporting conference-related medical activities, informing strategic decision-making, and, where appropriate, presenting scientific information to external audiences.

2. Strategic External Engagement & KOL Development

  • Establish, develop, and maintain strong relationships with national and regional key opinion leaders (KOLs) and other relevant HIV stakeholders.

  • Be recognized as a credible scientific partner and contributor to improving the quality of HIV patient care.

  • Maintain regular scientific dialogue with external experts, providing medical guidance, background information, and data-driven responses to support informed decision-making.

  • Foster collaboration among healthcare professionals, community organizations, and other stakeholders to improve education, research, and patient outcomes.

3. Medical Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and execute medical affairs activities aligned with the Medical Plan of Action (POA), and strategic priorities.

  • Lead and support initiatives across key areas including scientific engagement, medical education, data generation, and patient-centred activities.

  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable projects and ensure successful execution through effective planning, stakeholder alignment, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Independently manage assigned projects, proactively addressing risks, obstacles, and opportunities to deliver high-quality outcomes.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Compliance

  • Collaborate effectively across Medical Affairs, Commercial, Market Access, Clinical Development, Marketing, Global Medical Affairs and other cross-functional teams to achieve shared objectives.

  • Work successfully within multiple overlapping teams and stakeholder groups while maintaining a patient-centred and science-driven approach.

  • Ensure that all activities and interactions comply with corporate policies, local regulations, industry codes of practice, and medical governance requirements.

  • Uphold the highest standards of scientific integrity, ethics, and compliance in all external engagements and medical activities.

Minimum Education and Basic Qualifications:

  • Advanced health sciences degree (M.D., Pharm. D., PhD are preferred) with strong industry experience in Medical Affairs

  • Experience in HIV / infectious disease / oncology therapeutic area preferred

  • Advanced interpersonal skills including demonstration of proficiency in building relationships with opinion leaders in health care professions, and the ability to network within the health care community.   

  • Strong scientific and business acumen, excellent verbal and written communication skills (Russian and English) as well as personal initiative and interpersonal skills are required.

  • Excellent project management ability and organizational skills, including the management of multiple priorities and resources, and high attention to detail.

  • Must have knowledge of and be willing to comply with all regulatory/compliance policies.

  • Ability to travel 70% of the time; domestic and international travel is required, including potential attendance at conferences which may include occasional weekend travel.
