This recruitment is only open to current San Bernardino County, Fire Protection District, or Special Districts employees who hold a regular, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, Work Experience Program (WEX), or intern position. Former PSE, WEX, or interns are eligible to apply up to six (6) months from the end of their assignment.

Are you passionate about developing innovative library services that impact an entire county library system? The San Bernardino County Library is seeking a creative, collaborative, and service-oriented Librarian II to join our Library Administration team. This unique assignment offers the opportunity to influence library services across 32 branch libraries serving the largest geographical county in the United States. Working alongside Library leadership, this position will help shape programs, collections, outreach initiatives, volunteer engagement, and customer experience that serve residents from cradle to career and beyond.

Under general direction, the Librarian II assigned to Library Administration will assist with the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of countywide library initiatives and services. 

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with the development, implementation, and evaluation of systemwide library programs and special events.

  • Supporting collection development by evaluating materials, analyzing usage trends, and recommending additions and improvements to the library collection.

  • Coordinating community outreach efforts and cultivating partnerships with schools, community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

  • Assisting with the recruitment, training, coordination, and recognition of Library volunteers.

  • Developing marketing and promotional materials to increase awareness and participation in library programs and services.

  • Supporting customer service initiatives and helping ensure an exceptional experience for library patrons across the system.

  • Assisting with countywide events, campaigns, and strategic initiatives.

  • Collaborating with branch staff and Library Administration to identify emerging community needs and develop innovative service solutions.

  • Collecting and analyzing program and service data to evaluate effectiveness and recommend improvements.

  • Providing professional guidance, training, and support to branch staff related to assigned projects and initiatives.

  • Representing the Library at community meetings, outreach events, and professional organizations.

  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment Process: Incumbents must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, work history verification, as well as a job-related physical exam and drug screening.    

Work Schedule: These positions require regular weekend and evening work schedules.

Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

Physical Requirements: Physical requirements of the position include the following: frequent reaching and bending; continuous walking and standing; continuous pushing and pulling; constant lifting of materials and books up to 25 pounds and frequent lifting up to 75 pounds.

Candidates must meet the ONE (1) of required options:

OPTION 1: 
EDUCATION: A completed bachelor's degree or 120 semester units (180 quarter units) from an accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of full-time equivalent lead worker or supervisory experience in a library, retail, educational or customer service related industry.

OPTION 2:
EDUCATION: A completed Associate degree or 60 semester units (90 quarter units) from an accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of full-time equivalent lead worker or supervisory experience in a library, retail, educational or customer service related industry.

Note: Qualifying degrees must be completed at a college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. In addition, degrees completed outside of the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service indicating equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at the college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.

The ideal candidate is a highly organized and innovative library professional who enjoys balancing multiple projects while working collaboratively with diverse teams. They possess strong communication and relationship-building skills and are passionate about expanding access to library services. Ideal candidates will demonstrate experience in:
