Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position

Are you an innovative and enthusiastic animal advocate looking to play a key role in finding shelter animals their forever home?  

 

As an Alternative Placement Coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating efforts to increase the placement of sheltered pets out of Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) care. This includes those animals in need of critical and/or temporary support with the goal of efficiently placing them into permanent or temporary transfer outlets. This position requires the employee to be in the office and or customer-facing for all hours worked.

We Require

• Two years of experience working with animals in an animal welfare organization, veterinary facility, humane society, or similar animal care facility; may include volunteer work
• High School Diploma or GED
• An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis

• Additional skills with animal behavior and handling techniques  
• Experience working in a high-volume customer service job 
• Experience handling newborn and young dogs and cats 

Job Contributions

• Provides exceptional customer service by responding promptly to communications from New Hope Partners and transfer organizations while cultivating and nurturing new and existing relationships
• Coordinate the movement of animals requiring alternative placement to the appropriate and approved New Hope Partners or transfer organizations and/or fosters. Acts as the primary liaison between New Hope Partners, transfer organizations, and shelter staff
• Manage animals through the system, ensuring efficient permanent outcomes, including receiving and discharging identified animals 
• Maintain accurate record entry, including data entry and statistical reporting, as well as managing the associated programs and database
• Monitor and ensure compliance with all contractual requirements for New Hope Partners and transfer organizations
• Ensure all shelter policies and procedures are followed and adhered to by the New Hope Partners, transfer organizations, and fosters, and report any discrepancies
• Assist the Foster team with the placement of animals into approved foster care
• Participate in MCACC special events and projects as needed and assigned, including adoption events, animal transport, tours, and public education programs, including ensuring animals in foster are ready and available for offsite events
• Generate positive relations with the general public, volunteers, and team members while promoting MCACC programs, policies, mission, and vision. Proactively address customer needs and ensure a high quality of customer care is provided

Working Conditions

• This position works in a busy, often noisy, office setting within an animal shelter, with the ability to be around animals (dogs and cats), exposure to cleaning products used in animal shelters, and the smells associated with animal housing

• Due to the nature of shelter work, may be exposed to deceased, fractious, or reactive animals; hostile or irate persons; zoonotic or other diseases; unpleasant noises, odors, or sights; and extreme temperatures

• Consistently exposed to animals and animal allergens under conditions with limited alterations available

• Exerting 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly

• May be required to drive to and from job-related locations, subject to County policies regarding the use of County or private vehicles used on County business

• Must be available to work day or evening shifts any day of the week, including holidays
