Requisition Number:

How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:

As a registered nurse (RN), you are expected to consistently deliver the best in care and customer service and to demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in each encounter with our patients, their families, visitors, and with each other. As part of the health care team, RNs assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and the provision of individualized care for patients of all ages. The registered nurse utilizes delegation and critical‑thinking skills to provide quality service through a team‑oriented, collaborative approach to patient care.

Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Responsibilities: In the PACU setting, the RN is responsible for the immediate post‑operative care of patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical or procedural interventions. Duties include continuous assessment and monitoring of airway patency, respiratory and cardiovascular status, level of consciousness, pain, and surgical sites. The PACU RN collaborates closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe patient recovery, readiness for discharge or transfer, and effective patient and family education regarding post‑operative expectations and care.

This position primarily works three 12-hour shifts per week, most commonly from 0800–2030 or 0900–2130. Occasional shifts from 0645–1915 may be required based on unit needs. Weekend coverage may be necessary on a limited basis to support Baylor staff coverage; this is infrequent but may occur. Schedule flexibility is essential to ensure safe patient throughput and continuity of care in the PACU.

The RN

  • Provides individualized patient care and coordinates care delivery for patients of all ages.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Completes and documents age-specific assessments to support development of care plans.
  • Collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and adjust care plans.
  • Administers treatments and medications accurately and documents care in electronic medical records.
  • Identifies and addresses patient and family education needs.
  • Participates in performance improvement and quality initiatives.
  • Advocates for patients and supports their rights and psychosocial needs.
  • Applies knowledge of growth and development to provide age-appropriate care.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in dynamic and changing care environments.
  • Implements strategies to improve patient outcomes and resource utilization.
  • Serves as a role model and supports development of peers and team members.
  • Manages resources, prioritizes tasks, and adapts to changing patient care needs.
  • Supports orientation and training of new employees.
  • Uses problem-solving skills to address patient care and operational challenges.
  • Provides feedback and participates in shared decision-making activities.
  • Supports education activities within the department.
  • Maintains confidentiality and complies with regulatory and organizational standards.
