Atrium Health is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Surgery Scheduler / Surgical Coordinator to join our fast-paced Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Clinic. This position supports a high-volume practice with four orthopedic surgeons providing exceptional care to patients. The Surgery Scheduler plays a critical role in coordinating surgical procedures, managing scheduling logistics, communicating with patients and providers, and ensuring all required documentation and authorizations are completed accurately and efficiently.

This role is ideal for a candidate who thrives in a busy healthcare environment, enjoys collaborating with physicians and patients, and possesses strong organizational and communication skills.

Required Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of office, clerical, healthcare scheduling, or related experience required
  • Experience in surgical scheduling, orthopedic practices, physician offices, or healthcare administration preferred

Licensure/Certification

  • No licensure or certification required

Essential Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures, ancillary testing, and related patient appointments.
  • Work closely with orthopedic surgeons and clinical staff to identify appropriate surgery dates, times, and operating room availability.
  • Ensure procedures are scheduled in the appropriate surgical setting based on physician preferences and procedural requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain patient reports, surgery packets, and other necessary documentation.
  • Process and review incoming and outgoing surgery-related forms and records.
  • Verify insurance requirements, obtain pre-authorizations, and assist with financial and accommodation arrangements when necessary.
  • Serve as a patient resource by providing guidance regarding surgical logistics, preparation, and scheduling requirements.
  • Maintain working knowledge of scheduling and healthcare software systems utilized in the surgical scheduling process.
  • Review future schedules to maximize operating room utilization and provide recommendations to physicians regarding scheduling opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, patients, families, insurance companies, and internal departments to ensure a seamless surgical experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of clinic operations.

  • Proficiency with computer systems and scheduling software
