Paramedic
IMMEDIATELY HIRING!
BRIDGE TEAM COMMUNITY HEALTH PARAMEDIC FULL-TIME Opportunity
JOB DESCRIPTION
Our mission of providing care to the world at a moment's notice is at the heart of everything we do. We are caregivers, first and foremost and we will be there when you need us.
With more than 36,000 employees, Global Medical Response teams deliver compassionate, quality medical care, primarily in the areas of emergency and patient relocation services around the world. We provide end-to-end medical transportation as well as fire services, integrated healthcare solutions and disaster response.
JOB SUMMARY
Serves as the medical member of the City of Waco's BRIDGE Team, a multi-disciplinary behavioral health response program operated in partnership by AMR, the Waco Police Department (WPD), and the Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network (HoTBHN). Co-responds with a WPD officer and a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) to behavioral health calls; conducts medical assessments, applies medical exclusion criteria, makes transport determinations, and supports diversion to behavioral health settings rather than emergency departments when medically appropriate. This expanded-scope paramedic role requires independent clinical judgment, de-escalation skills, and the ability to identify medical conditions masked or complicated by psychiatric symptoms or substance use.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
- Serves as the medical decision-maker on BRIDGE responses; makes assessment, treatment, and transport determinations within the paramedic scope of practice and AMR Clinical Operating Guidelines (COGs) established by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO).
- Conducts physical and medical assessments of each individual encountered, including vital signs, examination, medication review, and screening for medical conditions that may underlie or complicate a behavioral health presentation (e.g., hypoglycemia, hypoxia, head injury, arrhythmia, intoxication, or withdrawal).
- Applies the BRIDGE medical exclusion criteria to determine whether emergency department transport is required or whether the individual may be released to the QMHP for behavioral health assessment; re-evaluates if medical status changes.
- Consults online medical control as needed and notifies AMR leadership and the Medical Director following consultation; arranges ambulance transport whenever any team member is not comfortable releasing an individual without further medical evaluation.
- Co-responds with a WPD officer and a HoTBHN QMHP; stages until WPD confirms the scene is safe and coordinates the sequence of medical and behavioral health assessments to support de-escalation.
- Defers behavioral health disposition decisions to the QMHP and law enforcement decisions, including any emergency detention under Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 573, to the WPD officer.
- Serves as the primary driver of the BRIDGE vehicle; performs pre-shift vehicle and equipment checks (communications, cardiac monitor, ALS first-response equipment, ePCR tablet, PPE, and body armor) and maintains supplies.
- Determines eligibility for BRIDGE vehicle transport to behavioral health facilities or community resources only when all program criteria are met; ensures any transport requiring ambulance-level care is completed by ambulance.
- Provides emergency medical care to any team member, bystander, or community member who becomes ill or injured during a BRIDGE response, and requests EMS through dispatch when a patient becomes medically unstable.
- Participates in post-crisis follow-up when a medical component is relevant; supports medication adherence, identifies barriers to primary care, and connects individuals with medical and community resources.
- Completes accurate, timely ePCR documentation for every contact, including HoTBHN record and WPD case numbers; contributes to program data reporting within authorized data-sharing agreements.
- Protects patient health information in accordance with HIPAA and GMR privacy policy; completes mandated reports of suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation as required by Texas law.
- Completes all required BRIDGE program training and maintains Texas paramedic credentials, continuing education, and AMR clinical credentialing.
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures and the GMR Code of Conduct.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
