What you will do
Johnson Controls has an exciting Product Engineer II opportunity based at our Dublin, Ireland location, supporting our new European air-cooled chiller engineering organization. If you enjoy mechanical design, testing, and data analysis, this could be the right position for you.
In this role you will support the mechanical design and performance of air-cooled chiller components and systems engineered for the European market, working under general supervision to complete detailed design work. You will provide support to production, laboratory, service, applications, and marketing teams across Europe, and contribute to new and exciting product development programs while continuing to build your expertise.
How you will do it
- Develops and applies an understanding of the theories, concepts, technical principles, and processes related to the fluid, thermal, refrigeration, and other mechanical aspects of air-cooled chillers
- Works under general supervision, following work instructions and defined processes to conceptualize and implement design ideas into the product
- Defines and plans own activities for a project and completes detailed mechanical design work on assigned components and features
- Applies European mechanical and safety codes and directives, including CE marking, the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), and the Machinery Directive, and harmonized standards such as EN 378 (refrigerating systems safety) and EN 14511 (chiller performance rating)
- Writes product specifications, and prepares, checks, and coordinates the release of documentation to support designs
- Works with the design and manufacturing teams to develop layout concepts and system configurations that balance cost, performance, and reliability
- Selects suitable mechanical components – including heat exchangers, fans, compressors, valves, and refrigerant piping – considering cost, performance, and reliability
- Helps execute test programs to validate the performance and reliability of mechanical systems and components; analyzes, modifies, and troubleshoots mechanical sub-components based on test data
- Responsible for engineering deliverables, including creating design specifications, detailed design reviews, data analysis, etc.
- Supports the manufacturing and sustaining of the product, including initiating and executing design changes
- Provides support to application engineers, designers, factory operations, product marketing, and product technical service, and can mentor new hires at the Engineer I level
- Reports the status of own work, and that of junior team members, to the project team, with good written and verbal communication
- Contributes to the accurate and on-time completion of projects and regularly reports on the status of assigned work
