Physical Operations Manager (Facilities, Security & Logistics)
Location: Irvine, CA (In-person)
Who We Are
Omen is miniaturizing lab-grade spectroscopy into field-deployable embedded sensors. Our systems deliver PPM-level trace analysis on the fluids inside industrial machines and datacenters. That lets us catch wear trends like bearing failures or coolant contamination in real time, weeks to months before a catastrophic failure.
Our team is a tightly knit group of ~20 builders, dropouts, and industry veterans. We don't build things that are good enough; we build things that are 100x better.
The Challenge
We are moving from prototypes to fielded hardware across two systems:
- Omen Scout: for closed-loop hydraulic and lubricating oils.
- Omen Sentry: for direct-to-chip liquid cooling loops (typically water/glycol mixtures).
We have a growing building full of labs, chemicals, prototypes, and inventory, plus a steady flow of hardware going out to industrial sites and datacenters and sometimes coming back. Today, engineers handle the building, the doors, and the shipping in between their real jobs. We need an operator to own the physical side of the company: the facility, its security and safety, and everything that moves in and out of it. You will build these systems from scratch and keep them a step ahead of our growth.
What You Will Do
- Own the Facility: Run the Irvine site end to end: layout and build-outs, lab and shop infrastructure, maintenance, utilities, janitorial, landlord and building management, and facility vendors. Plan space for headcount and production growth before we run out of it.
- Run Physical Security: Own access control, badging, cameras, alarms, and visitor management. Protect our IP, prototypes, and customer hardware. Set the policies, pick and manage the systems and vendors, and lead response when something goes wrong.
- Lead Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS): Build and run our safety program: OSHA compliance, chemical storage and hazardous waste, SDS records, PPE, training, emergency plans, and incident reporting. Make the lab a place where people move fast without getting hurt.
- Own Inbound & Inventory: Receive, inspect, and track components and sub-assemblies from suppliers and contract manufacturers. Stand up an inventory system (bin locations, cycle counts, reorder points) that engineering can trust without asking.
- Run Outbound, Field Deployments & Returns: Pack, ship, and track sensor units to customer sites across the US, including regulated shipments (fluid samples, chemicals, lithium batteries) under DOT and IATA rules. Run RMAs and get failed field units back to engineering with clear chain of custody.
What We Are Looking For
- 6+ years in facilities, physical operations, or logistics, with at least 2 years owning a site or function end to end, not just executing within one.
- Hands-on experience running a facility with labs, manufacturing, or warehouse space: build-outs, maintenance, vendors, and landlord relationships.
- Experience owning physical security programs: access control, cameras, alarms, visitor policy, and incident response.
- Working knowledge of EHS and OSHA requirements, including chemical handling and hazardous materials.
- Experience moving physical product: receiving, inventory control, shipping, and carrier/freight management.
- You have built ops from scratch, or rebuilt broken ones, in a lean or fast-growing environment.
- A strong action bias. You would rather fix the shelf today than write a memo about it, and you're comfortable doing the physical work yourself.
Nice to Have
- Experience at a hardware, defense, energy, or manufacturing company (an Anduril-, Tesla-, or SpaceX-style operation).
- Experience with security platforms (Verkada, Kisi, Brivo, or similar) and with facilities or maintenance systems (CMMS).
- Experience shipping equipment into datacenters or industrial plants (site access, dock scheduling, liftgate deliveries).
- Exposure to ERP or inventory systems (NetSuite, Katana, Fishbowl, or similar).
- Certifications such as OSHA 30, HAZMAT/IATA, CPP or PSP (security), or FMP (facilities).
Compensation & Benefits
Base Range of 110k to 140k + Equity
Benefits
- 100% medical, dental & vision coverage (for you)
- Flexible PTO
- WFH setup stipend
- Relocation support to San Francisco
- Free food & snacks
- Daily in-office dinner provided
Why Omen?
We take physics seriously, but we don't let red tape slow us down. You will be the person who keeps the building running, the lab safe, the doors secure, and the hardware moving. If you want to build an operation from the ground up for hardware that protects the most expensive infrastructure on the planet, we want to talk to you.
